I would think wood would be more porous than styrofoam myself...they make coolers out of styrofoam (as far as holding rain water).

I suppose that putting it up on something is better than letting it set on the ground. I've done that before, using a piece of wood or an empty tuna fish can. Now, I generally just let them go natural and on the ground. I lose very few.

What kind of pumpkin are you growing?

The variety is jack-o-lantern.

It's resting on a piece of styrofoam right now. Want to make sure nothing starts gnawing on it from underneath.
