Is this just a myth?

I was telling my daughter that my zucchini this year have only put out male flowers. She said that a friend of her's always pulls off most of the male blossoms (also on her tomatoes), so that the energy will go into making female blossoms. I've never heard of this. Is it true??

I can never figure out what the difference is between the male and femlae flower on squash and pumpkin! LOL! I will ask my Amish friend about that the next time I see him out in the garden!

lisbeth, you'll see a miniature fruit or swelling at the base of the female flower - that hopefully will be pollentated and grow to be a pumpkin or squash. The male flowers are on a slender stalk.
