Wow, I'm so glad you posted this! This year I'll bet we've had over ten thousand in our basement, both the finished and unfinished areas, and that's not an exageration. They started in early June, and I regularly counted 100-200 inside EVERY morning as I vacuumed them up. No telling how may outside, but I could sweep them up by the full dustpan. This went on for over 2 months, but began tapering off as the weather got drier in August. Now I only have 3-5 each morning, but that's still 3-5 too many for INSIDE my house. I tried re-caulking everywhere, and I cannot figure out how they are getting in. I sprayed Sevin around my foundation twice and put down Ortho Max granules once, and each time would kill a bunch of them, but there were so many more that I just decided there were way too many to control. Also I was afraid to put out more because of my dog and cats.
We have lived here 6 years and this is the first year they have gotten inside. Next year I will try your solution and put out Sevin dust nightly! One question: Did you stop seeing them while we were still having rainy weather, or was it after the dry weather started? From the research I've done, they come out of the ground when it gets saturated, but tend to disappear back underground when it dries off. I figured the rainy weather we had early summer brought them out.

I saw a real dramatic reduction even in the rainy weather. They were about 95% gone after about 2 weeks. Now, close to 100%. It didn't start to get dry here until about 31/2 weeks ago. (We had our first rain here today in over 3 weeks) When they were at the worst, they were basically gone during the day, after the morning light, but at night they were everywhere. They would just cover the pool deck up. Millions of them! Just walking around the pool deck at night..you could hear 'em crunching under your feet. By morning the bottom of the pool was nearly black with them. That's what keyed me to treat at nighttime with the Sevin. My house is in the edge of the woods, near a river, so they may return, but at least now I know what to do. Next year I'll start early, before they mulitply into millions. I used Sevin dust some, as well as Liquid Sevin in a hose end sprayer and just saturated everything with it. In the mornings I had to wash the Sevin off the pool deck..along with thousands of Millipedes. Also used the granules in a wide perimeter around the yard, as well as around the foundation of the house and across the yard. So far so good. Kills a lot of bugs and spiders too.
