Can they come to my house? I'm right next door!

If they start doing that here, I'm moving away. I do not agree with that practice of mosquito control but at least they're doing it when I would be sleeping.

This is the worse year yet for mosquitoes. And it's been dry. I'm blaming all the hurricanes.

we have skeeter control trucks out here in Monroe, and it's a blessing. You can hear them coming, so you don't have to be outside when they go by. they focus on the roadside ditches, so they don't come in to the subdivision.

i think the skeeters are just desperate because it HAS been so dry. they sit there and wait, and then as soon as there's the least little bit of water...Eat fast, guys!

Are you all sure you're not seeing gnats and flies? I'm not kidding you, I've only had like 2 bites this summer and those were the only mosquitos I've seen. And I am outside a great deal with the dogs, especially around dusk when it's a little cooler. MAybe that's why you are seeing more... are you waiting until dusk to go outside because of this year's bad heat wave?

quirky, I've tried everything. I stopped going out in the am or dusk. But on Saturday, I was out in full sun pulling morning glory off some shrubs and got 5 bites. They are certainly mosquitoes, I even see them on me. They are worse in my back yard than front. I went out in the front and there was a friggin fly there biting my ankles. I can't win.

I don't like to use that greasy stuff, and at HD I did get a new kind of OFF that dries on the skin. It doesn't smell either. But its only good for a few hours.

I wish I could tell you the spraying works, but it is ineffective against mosquitoes according to studies. Mosquitoes have a habit of hiding near or under foliage, so they do not become targets for the falling spray, but other insects do. Use mosquito dunks for effective control.

Reading I've done and a recent program on NPR state that mosquitos can breed in the tiny amount of water trapped between a junction of leaf with stem. Mosquitos dunks have their place, but cannot possibly be effective in other than a large enough amount of standing water to dissolve them.

Copied the first round of responses here and presented to our City Manager and the Mayor and Council at the work session last night. They seemed pleased with the positive notes.

I may have to do something. I went outside for 2 minutes after work to cut some chives for dinner. I thought I was safe because I still had my long pants from work on. I had two bites on my hand and wrist. I guess when I reached into the chives.

I'm going to order some mosquito traps and see how that goes. I have a lot of butterflies and crickets in the yard and don't want to kill them.
