squash flower cooking question

Do you remove the stamen and wash out the pollen? I have a lot of ants inside my blossoms so I would want to wash the flower really well. I know they are delicate, but if I'm going to eat something that was ant infested (or should I not?) I'd want to wash it well. All of the recipes I've seen utilizing squash blossoms just say to wash and drain on a paper towel. Nobody says anything about that pollen stem thingy inside...
