Most of the c. maximas are dry. Look at varieties like Hubbard, Buttercup, Turks Turban, Galeux d'Eysines, Golden Delicious, Banana squash and Kabocha; just to name a few. By the way Big Max is a c. maxima, but it is not of high quality.

Thanks macmex!!!!! I have been asking seed sellers for years to include which squash are 'dry flesh' in their catalogs but they never do. Now if I can find some c. mochata (sp?) that are dry flesh I will be all set. (need solid stems to foil the SVB)

Lately I consider "dry" to be an undesirable trait. I suppose it's good for long storage, but for eating it seems, well, too damn dry. I've found some Maximas to not be dry, Sweet Meat for one. I'm thinking of growing more Moschatas for the higher moisture.

My big blue hubbards are quite dry when fully ripe.
