Donn - both are awesome! We have been trialing these for 2 years with Pan Am, and I used some at home this summer in containers. The Multi-pellet form makes it a no-brainer for commercial growers to sow and germinate, and you end up with a nice clump that fills in quickly. Definitely trust what Pan Am says about the hardiness of the Javelin. They are NOT saying it is hardy. Would post a pic of mine if I would take the time to figure out how to do it!

Are you growing the 'Javelin' as an annual, or protecting it through winter? How tall does it get from seed in it's first season?

Growing it as an annual, mine are about 4' now - really striking in large mixed containers.

Donn, pallidus as a species is somewhat hardy. Jelitto lists J. pallidus as hardy to 0-10 deg f. There isn't reason to think that 'Javelin' is any less hardy than the species. If it is, it likely isn't really a pallidus species. More trials will tell.

PanAm is now promoting as a zone 7, despite website listing. Safer may be a zone 7b. You're in the perfect area to trial for hardiness.

From what I read, J. pallidus needs a bit of cold strat, so I'll winter sow some, and I'll bring in a tray or 2 of each if my broker lists it. One of his growers has it on the schedule for early '08, so I should be able to get some plugs.
