Is there insect danger to gourds while drying?

In spite of the ground hogs, squirrels, possums, and tornado, I have a few nice very large martin-house shaped gourds. The stems are fully brown, vines are yellow. On one or two I see series of small round dark brown spots, and the green skin right around the spot darker than the rest of the gourd. Could this be from insects? Will I loose these gourds? Should I treat for insects this late?
