My Prediction(not as accurate as Alans) is first frost October 27th. I am willing to put $20 on that date. Any takers? JK for any cops aout there.

Hello Spike. I have been a bit absent this summer. I need to get back in the habit of visiting regularly.

Here are my dates for first frost since 1997...
    1997: October 23
    1998: November 6
    1999: October 25
    2000: October 9
    2001: October 17
    2002: November 8
    2003: November 25
    2004: November 15

The way this fall is starting, we may not see frost till January!!

I was just going to post some numbers about this long dry spell we've had lately to give some perspective about just how long and bad its been.

Thanks man, you are huge! Your I'm just trying to figure out when my tropicals need to come in ...and when I need to start building my greenhouse. Anyway, your Wx info is much appreciated here.

    Regards,

    Spike

WOOOHOOO!!!! Only missed it by one day!

Brad what dose this mean for the plants -- ie do I need to bring those less than zone 7b (in alpharetta) back inside before the 1st frost? Thanks.

I need to add a date:
    2005: October 26

Vroomp yet again, almost spot on to your prediction!

Hey Pickle, anything you have that's zone 8-9 may survive if mulched heavily. My Colocasia esculenta 'Illustris'did well last year with no extra protection however, temps weren't that bad last year as far as low temp goes. Anything Zone 10 and above should be removed to indoors or greenhouse for winter.

Does anyone have a guess as to when the first hard freeze will be?

    Wildflower, I can offer this....

Earliest Date with Temp Below 30F:
    1997: November 17 with 25F
    1998: December 18 with 28F
    1999: November 4 with 29F
    2000: November 21 with 27F
    2001: October 28 with 29F
    2002: November 28 with 28F
    2003: November 25 with 28F
    2004: December 14 with 28F

My lowest temp so far this fall is 35F. It sounds as if the weather will be getting warmer for a bit, maybe one more really cold morning. It might be a week or more before we cool back down to where we've been lately.

Let's see how close my psychic powers will get on this one.
I say November 22nd will be the first temp below 32º.

Thanks ya'll... Alan, every fall and spring I'm always looking for your posts here for these records! Vroomp, I am hoping you are right and it holds off for another couple of weeks. I have so much to do with things that are outside right now and probably shouldn't be out there much longer!

    Just to add....

    Earliest Date with a Freeze
    2005: November 17

Earliest Date with Temp Below 30F
    2005: November 18 with 28F

You will note that this year is the third earliest date for temp below 30F! Despite all the earlier warmth this fall, cold weather has managed to get its foot in the door.
