A Few Pics.....

Here are some pics.

A little progress in front. Stumped as to if bougie's would work in the front under the windows. I would keep them clipped just below the windows. That area gets sun till half past noon. It stays dry as a bone because of being under the shutters/overhang.

My share of the Heliconia Lisa shared with us at Treefrog's.

I have started putting in the Permahedge. Here is what it looks like. I like it and am very pleased. I found it half price on Amazon. So I will be able to get it ordered with in the next month. A few boxes at a time. lol

Aztec Gold..raised from a cutting from Wachovia Bank parking lot.

A close up.

Miami Rose.

The other side of the fence. Notice the permahedge. It makes a nice backdrop. My newest addition, the Easter Island Tiki. Got him in Key Largo on Saturday.

This was behind the Key Largo Ramada on the Marina. I like the blue and purple combo.

Cindee, a very happy Tabby. : )

Anthurium I found at a little Mom and Pop nursery. $8. Was so tempted to go back for the other two. lol

The rest of Bromeliads from Gardenweb Pals. : )

Things are kind of a mess in the yard at moment. I feel overwhelmed.

Great pictures. I love your Plumerias. I have one I started from a cutting and it has never bloomed :( Will have to work on that...I must be doing something wrong.

    Thanks aroidg,

I give them lots of sun, air and I use bloom booster alot,(in small amounts tho). I have my plumies potted up and sunk in the ground. Easier to move. I use regular fert as well. Every other time.

It looks very pretty. Good Job. I like how the house matches the planters in front.

Good morning Tropicalfreak ~ enjoyed seeing all of your great plants. That perma hedge makes a wonderful backdrop. Nice that you are getting it at a great price also. Love your yellow plummie. I believe the one I have here at home is Miami Rose. A friend gave me several 'sticks' of hers when she cut it back many years ago. You have a great selection of tropical plants and your tiki dude looks happy to be among them. Keep posting pictures. I enjoy seeing your place.

Hey Cliff, I love your photo's. I see you have been working very hard. Have you every thought of growing vines on the fence? That would cover it too, big vines like the blue sky vine. Also, bouggies really grow a lot in the summer you might have a hard time with keeping them the size you want. Maybe you could just move those crotons to get them more evenly spaced and then mulch. Just a suggestion, post more photos and let us see how it turned out. ;o)

    Thanks MIchelle.

Thanks Flowerlady. My tiki dude puts a smile on my face. lol

Thanks Katkin. I'm afraid to use vines on the fence with the homes being so close together. I plant o use a bougie or two though and train them sort of as standards so they look manicured. I have considered spacing out the crotons and calling it a day.

In the first picture, there is a type of lily or something to the right of the blue and white planter. What is it? And how do you keep it looking so nice? We have one in our front planter and it always looks like crap. I don't know how to take care of them. And when the big stalk grow out of the middle, I know this is where it blooms, but mine is laying over one the sidewalk now. It just won't stand up and hasn't bloomed. Should I cut it back or wait and let it bloom? Thanks. BTW, You look like you have a wonderful space to work with and I LOVE the TIKI dude.

Great pictures, Cliff! Sure glad you got those batteries!

You have a beautiful collection of tropicals there and I especially like the heliconia from Lisa! And, of course, the tiki dude.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Great flowers love them all.
Never heard of perma hedge is it difficult to out up? Let us know more about how you like it.
My son just painted his home blue with white well, cream trim( We both are afraid to use bright white!) He has added all kids of orange flowers so I call it his GMAC garden. He doesnt mind as he is a realtor with GMAC.
He even wants to paint the front door terra cotta.
Are those cement planters old they look like antique ones quite nice.

    Hi Joyful Garden,

The lilies are Queen Emma's. They are under the over hang and are protected when it rains. The rain will beat them down other wise. They get sun till about half past noon. I keep them groomed, trimming any leaves that are bent or laying over and not standing up. Maybe you could past a pic of yours?? Maybe it just a good groom?
    Thanks for the compliments.

    Thanks Betsy.

    Goldenpond,

Permahedge is very easy to put up. You don't weave it, you just slide it through the slats.
I bet your son's place looks cool with those colors. We plan to paint the drive and walk terracotta. Don't be afraid of color, I have always been told. But I am ...lol. Yes, the cement planters are old. How old, I don't know. The house was built in the 60's. Amazed, if they happened to be original. Thanks.

Hi Cliff, I love the Easter island guy !

I never heard of the perma hedge, It would be a great way for me to hide my compost pile.

Please, keep us posted on the stuff................

Hope to see you guys at the next swap :)

    Hi,Cliff!
I love your Easter Island Tiki. I would like to get one to put by my big waterfall. It looks expensive.
I did not know you were a pirate. I see you have been pirating
Aztec Gold. They are beautiful. I have three plumeria given to
me by garden web pals over the last few months. I plan on sinking the pots into the landscape and taking them inside during the winter. I'm so glad you are posting pictures. Your garden is looking good! Have fun with it.

Cliff, I have several bouggie standards. They do get big and require constant pruning. They may need support as well, especially with the wind we have been having lately, remember they are really a vine and don't have roots like a tree would. I use rebar from HD, it is the cheapest and lasts the longest. The poles they sell for support don't last more then a season. If you remember I make trees out of everything. ;o)

Your plumerias look fantastic. I have just started to get the hang of what they want. Mine were always too wet before and would get stem rot. Keep posting those photo's. ;o)

Miami Rose? Wow! They have a flower like the Frangie Pangie! Gorgeous flowers. Do they smell?

    Holliewould,

Frangi Pangi is another name for Plumeria. Yes, the Miami Rose has a scent. People describe it as a having a slight coconut suntan lotion scent.

The Aztec Gold smells like peaches.

Wow, I love the Tiki Guy and the Aztec Gold. Nice permahedge too.

Cliff...are you our resident plumie expert? I had two plumies - potted...pulled them to the back yard for the winter when they lost all their leaves. One was just one stick...it's come back nicely with really good leaves. The other pot was a two-pronged stick! Y ...you know. Anyway...this one isn't doing well, at all. No leaves at all yet and one doesn't look like the claw is even alive. Should I just break off the better looking side and try to root it, or would it be wise to just trash the whole thing. I have another smaller plant that I can put in the pot (to match the good one...we usually have them at the end of our driveway like a 'set') ...course, we have only the Lone Ranger out there right now.

Your pictures are neat...love your new tiki, too! Kewl lookin! great plumies, as always! Fence is just good lookin!

    Hi Beth,

I used to have to do that when we lived in Orlando. Move them in the Garage for the winter went they went to sleep.

Check to see if the one struggling, has soft wood. Also, are they getting full sun? Be easy on the water til leaves emerge. I still pot my up using Catus mix and then I bury the pot about 3/4 of the way. I always handwater at the base, never on the leaves.

Full sun and well draining growing media are crucial for a plumies good health. I have no rust. I use Rose Pride, the granular, I sprinkle at the base but away from the trunk.

Plumies can't be babied. I lost several when I first started out with them, because I babied them. Too much water and not enough sun.

Check to see if the wood is firm and not soft before you do any cutting. How do the tips look? Is it getting enough sun?

I had one that was soft,(beginning to rot) the trunk and all, I cut to just above the soil and about a month later it had resprouted. I had backed off on the water and it was getting full sun. This was during the summer too.

    Hello All,
Great pics Cliff, and great advice on the plumerias for Beth. Dont give up on them check them for the rot. I have neighbors who's plumies havent leafed out yet, and they are full grown plants just different varieties having different growth cycles.
Also Cliff I have been trying my luck at brugs, datura, and trumpets. My first one this year was from cuttings and I found that it needs to be watered alot. So keep that in mind, if your going to plant in a dry spot. I really like what you have done. And the container gardening I find works for me as well because of so many organisms in the soil. The Tiki guy adds to the tropical appeal as well.
Would also like to find people who live close by to swap plants, cuttings, and seeds with. I'm in the West Palm Beach Area myself.
