I was there about two weeks ago and they had all types of tulip, daff, and hyacinth bulbs. They also had azaleas, gardenias, lelands, mums and pansy flats (for $6).

Wow that is pretty cheap for bulbs (see ad.) Has anyone ever grown their bulbs before? did you get decent results.

I haven't used them before, but I'm trying them out this year. I got 160 bulbs for $17.50 (tulips, muscari, hyacinth), and they had crown imperials for $2.50 each. All their bulbs come from Holland...which sounded nice to me, but I'm not sure if it means anything. I just got them for the price!

Their bulbs are not first size, maybe about 3rd size so expect to see the most growth in a year or two from now. However, that said, I had no problems with anything I did purchase last year - it just seemed like young bulb growth. Next year I expect to see a really strong show! Their prices really are good on bulbs.

Are you referring to the hyacinths, daffs, etc. that are 3rd size? Or are you talking about the tulips too? I know that tulips are considered annuals in our hot climate and I won't have a chance to see what they will do in the 2nd year.

my tulips have come back for the past five years. My daffodils came back one. My bulbs were ordered from a Dutch grower. This year i am trying Home Depot bulbs and maybe growers outlet!

They sometimes offer unusual bulbs that interest me. Over the years, have found Colchicum, Lachenalia aloides, Pink-flowering Crocosmia and this year, Dick & Marijke said they had ordered Crinum. Sometimes, they have species Tulips(the only type I grow), usually Tulipa bakeri 'Lilac Wonder' or similar. Not as showy as the huge Dutch hybrids, but they are perennial and come back each year.
Have also had good luck with their Amaryllis bulbs, but haven't found the gigantic bulbs(40+cm) there. Have only seen those at WallyWorld, in very limited colors($7.50 ea).

Probably be there Sunday, searching for something uncommon.

I throw all the amaryllis I get at growers outlight right in the garden! They have proven hardy for me, no problem. They often have them during the summer for $1 a bulb.
OH MAN, if they have crocosmia other than golden yellow (george davidson) orange or red, please let me know RB! I'm dying to try some others. I'm interested in any unusual hardy bulbs too.
I found all their bulbs are pretty much 3rd size, which is what 95% of all bulb catalogs sell anyway, and the prices are even cheaper here. Bonus is, you can see what you are buying too.
You can beat the folks that run growers outlet. They are both wonderful.

P.S. plant your tulips a little deeper, and they will be in cooler soil and last a little bit longer!

I'm not familiar with Grower's Outlet. Do they have a good variety of plant material?

Grower's outlet has a very low selection at the moment. They are out of a lot of variety of bulbs, I went for daffodils and they were out except for the minis. They have lots of pansies ($6 per tray), Mums $.50, and mini-daffodil bulbs at 20 for $2.50. They do have lots of tulips, just your standard varieties. They have many butterfly bushes 4 for $10 (white, pink and purple.)

Looks like they are getting ready for Christmas trees.

Did you happen to notice if they had any Gumpo Azaleas? Went last Sun to pick up a truck load of them and they were sold out! They only had the Tsutsuji types, mostly Girard cultivars. They had very few bulbs, other than Tulips and Amaryllis, then. All of the Crocus were gone. Christmas trees are due before Thanksgiving Day, he said.

I had bought two bags of tulips -- sweetheart and montreaux -- and a bag of scilla siberica at Home Depot.
Now, my yard already has been planted with daffodils and muscari and tulips and hyacinth over the past 2 years but I have always dreamed of having lots and lots of tulips and they're always too expensive to buy more than 2 or 3 bags a year.
So I went to Growers Outlet yesterday and got 80 tulip bulbs and 10 hyacinth -- all for $10!!! Now I will finally get to see what a spring with all those spring bloomers will look like -hooray. GGG, I probably would have pulled them up after they were over because I don't have great luck with reblooming tulips but after reading your post will leave them to ripen to see if many of them come back next year.

Their prices on pansies are also good, and they have great prices on such interesting items as ilex sky pencil, miscanthus sinensis gracillimus, colombine, etc. Some azaleas but I don't recall "gumpo azaleas" (I'm not big on azaleas and don't remember the type they had.)
They also have lots of Christmas trees and poinsettias!
