My Stapelia gigantea has just bloomed. It has a putrid-smelling starfish flower which is flesh-colored and covered with soft white hairs. When it grows in the wild, it attracts flies and maggots which pollinate it. It is very exotic looking. It made me think of other creepy plants that smell putrid (like the corpse plant-Amorphophallus titanum) or plants that eat insects. And you thought plants were all sweet and innocent!!
