Spent several hours working outside Sunday afternoon and found that the Mosquitos had not really deserted me! First I had encountered in several weeks of dry, dry weather.
Managed to plant a Dogwood(Cornus kousa 'Gold Star') that had been sitting around for a while. Also dug up a large Camellia sasanqua cultivar near the foundation on the northside of the house. It never bloomed and in recent years had developed a severe case of leaf gall. I guess I discovered the reason for no blooms, in that it was sitting on a bed of broken concrete that was used as a backfill when the house was constructed. I haven't found the bottom of that pit yet! and finally gave up after exausting myself.
It was planted by a friend and I guess he didn't dig deep enough to find the concrete. Spent a little time outdoors today, potting up Hydrangeas, but Mosquitos were out in force again and I found a lot of things to do inside that just had to be completed today!
Be careful out in this weather. We have some gardening friends that have developed severe cases of flu-like symptoms from these cool, damp conditions.

Until we have temps BELOW 50 degrees we will coninue to have what a little person I know calls "bitey bugs".Keep using repellent!!

was out there again today finishing off the tidying up I started on Sunday. Tree guy came by and trimmed up some trees for me. Thought he must have disturbed a wasp/hornet nest at there were tons of them flying about in one particular spot. Didn't look too closely at the ground. Came back an hour or so later and there were no insects..........and a snake skin on the ground. Think that's what they were interested in. Will have to watch out for it in the yard now I know there is another one around. Was hoping to work by the creek tomorrow, but may postpone it for a couple of days!!
