I have to plant something on a REAL steep slope that is a 20' drop off a newly constructed pool deck. I will be planting Little Gem magnolias at the bottom but need to plant a groundcover for erosion control. The homeowner requested that I use jute erosion mating before planting. I researched all my choices and decided on liriope spicata since it spread fast and should look neat and hopefully choak out the weeds. This bank faces West into woods and will have irrigation. I like the texture of mondo better so I might switch to it if it performs the same. I am planting a variety of drought tolerant plants on the part of the bank that isn't so steep but thought this evergreen low grass would be neat looking and fill in choaking out the weeds. I was thinking most ground covers, like creeping raspberry, are maintenance problems due to the weeds growing in them. Also, they are shallow rooted so do they really help with erosion? Am I asking for trouble using this rapidly spreading plant??
