QQ, thanks for sharing your photos. I hope your neighbor is ok. What a huge Nyssa tree you found. All the ones around here are crowded by other things and so remain smaller. Nice view from the back yard; I seem to remember that tilted tree from previous pictures!

Although you can't really tell from that angle the big black gum has a few trunks. As I said in another post, certain trees really stood out this year. Even though last year was a better fall color year overall, this year certain trees seemed to stand apart from the rest. I've always remarked that black gums would drop leaves very quick, relatively early and would be sparse when the rest of the trees would get it together.

Great pictures folks. It has been a very good fall for color. I agree some trees realy seem to be standouts this year. Here is a big ole Mockernut Hickory in the edge of the woods back of my house.......

It represents the genus very well every year!

Alan, what a lovely hickory! One of my neighbors have some tall ones and I love watching them color up. Certainly a fall favorite for me too.

I spotted this Persimmon about a mile from my house. It is growing in an undeveloped tract, almost surrounded by Ailanthus altissima and chinese privet.

I thought the effect of the ripe persimmons on the tree after the leaves had fallen was very picturesque ... it reminded me of ornaments on a holiday tree. The persimmons are more red than brown, but this picture makes them appear more brown than they are:

Neat Persimmon picture Esh. I've seen a few around loaded down with fruit. That in itself is very ornamental. They have sported very good colors this year. They are usually very nice most years. Heres a small one on the side of a local parkway from October 28.....

Believe it or not the dogwood is older than the maple! I planted the maple but the dogwood was already there. They have managed to work well together.

Alan, what a lovely combination! I'm glad you captured that. The dogwoods have been very nice this year.

Here is a neighbor's red oak that I snapped a photo of last week. Still looking good today. The "bloom" time on fall foliage can really last as long as some trees spring bloom time!

Wow what an eye popping red!!! I've noticed that many white oaks are going a dark red this year. I have a 30 footer that is showing the red too. I'm like Will Rogers when it comes to Oaks, I never met one I didn't like!

I know what you mean about length of color. Seems like some stay in color forever. I have a picture of the above dogwood from October 18 when it was just begnning to turn......

The foliage has been beautiful this year in my yard except for some of the dogwoods and sassafrass. The pictures show what a difference a year makes and also how our trees reacted to the drought. The leaves turned yellow last year. This year they are more red and orange.
