It was cold here but not bad, I didn't loose anything at all - nothing looked like it got the frost, even tiny baby vegetables in the garden and the tender plants I have outside still in pots (like the giant flapjack plant or some sort of other succulent). They will however, get transplanted tomorrow into pots for indoors and for propagation.

Weather.com is calling for some rain next week!! HURRAY!

The last of my tomatoes are toast, as are my elephant ears and some of the more tender plants. It got into the low twenties here last night and we had to run the heat a little once the inside temp dropped below 60. It's definitely that time of year again, though they're calling for it to warm back up for at least a week.

Got down to 27 yesterday morning, which was more than enough to finish off bananas, cannas, brugs and some hydrangeas. I saw a mosquito flying around the day before and thought maybe he and his kind were also wiped out by the low temps. Mother Nature finally turned on the bug zapper!

Yeah, it sort of was a bad reminder of the Easter Freeze. Wilted black hydrangeas (and they were looking so good, even in the drought). Tomatoes toast, cannas fried, Lantana zapped.

Even some of my roses leaves turned a greyish color. I wonder if the drought has made them more susceptible to cold damage.

Hopefully everything will go to sleep now and need less water. No rain in the forecast for the next 10 days.......

I'm wondering if the hydrangeas (if only the tops got black) will recover? should I just cut off the damaged part?

Don't cut back the hydrangeas. Only the leaves turn black. If you cut now, you risk cutting off next years buds.

Wait till spring and then see where the buds pop out. If there is anything dead remaining then cut it off.

If you want to prune your hydrangeas to shape them, do it right after they bloom in the summer.

I cut back stuff like canna lillies and other perennials after they turn brown.

The one I'm not sure about is lantana, I've heard to cut it back now or wait till spring.....

Yes, too cold too fast - some of the trees that had not yet turned color, their leaves got fried. No fall show for those, they are just crinkled and brown now.

I have always waited until spring to trim my Lantana.
I'm not sure if that is some form of laziness or believing there is some truth in the opinions of some people that water enters the cut ends of the canes and causes the crown to decay. Often, during mild winters, I find new buds emerging in the spring, from part of the old growth and just remove the dead parts.
They can become rather unsightly during the winter, but they join a lot of other deciduous shrubby plants in that respect. :o)
