Gulf Coast Gardening

What plants for this area?

I have a banana tree and would like to know what plants would look good in the bed with it. It is in the direct sun and in this part of Alabama (Mobile), I have to be concern with plants that can take some winter nights with temps. below freezing. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Also, I am new to Mobile formerly eastern N.C. girl.

You could stick to other tropical looking plants that prefer a lot of water like Bananas do. Cannas and Elephant Ears come to mind.
