I don't recommend starting them indoors because they like cool weather. I plant mine in February and the date changes according to the 10 day forcast. Usually Earlier in February. MMMMM, good eatin'! I prefer vine varieties. Farmer Dill will probably weigh in, I grow those which he recommended to my a few years ago. He had great food growing advice.

Concur. I plant around the first of February, which may be a bit early for you. But as soon as ground freezing weather is past you will be ok. I have not not grown that many varieties, but the old Sugar Snap (tall vine) has done the best for me. I have grown Sugar Ann and Sugar Rae ( dwarf) and found the pods to get stringy too quick. Have not grown Super Sugar Snap, but the description sounds good.

I'm over run with pea packs this year. Picked them up for 10 cent each at my local hardware store at the end of last year (hopefully they'll germinate)

I'm in Atlanta and I planted the super sugar snap Jan. 20; but it was too early and it took time for them to germinate. I'm probably lucky they didn't rot in the ground. I didn't write down the time to germinate, but the first flowers were 4/14, and first pick was 5/1; which is 90 days for the latter (vs the 60 days on the seed pack). I don't think you get that much of a jump by planting early, they just sit and wait for it to warm up. With that said, I am going to germinate them inside and then set them out, and see if that helps. If it doesn't help, I'll have officially learned my lesson.

Farmer Dill, the super sugar snaps were great with no powdery mildew or disease. They were about 6 feet tall, which I wasn't expecting with my 4 ft trellis.

I'm in Middle GA and plan to put mine in the ground the first week of Feb. if the weather is behaving. I have raised beds, so soil tends to warm a bit faster. Last year my best performer was Cascadia. I think they are marketed as a shelling pea, but they were excellent as a Sugar Snap if picked early.
