What about dark brown plank wood flooring with white or cream walls instead of the birch or maple.

Not a big fan with painted wood flooring especially in high traffic kitchen areas.

A laminated wooden flooring shall be ideal in my opinion.

A painted floor will scratch over time and the color under will show through everywhere. I would just put a sisal carpet down instead and paint the walls crisp white. This will feel like a quaint cottage. Hope that helps. Charmean Neithart

Look on Houzz "So your style is Swedish" for inspiration photos. You will see light flooring and pale walls.

Do not paint the floor. It will be hard to maintain.

I recommend maple or birch flooring with a water-based clear finish, such as BONA Traffic.

I suggest going to a mill co. I used a Hickory Character Grade with a Walnut stain. High Gloss. I love the floor and everyone who comes love it. My cabinets are similar to yours with an European flare. and i use a Cherry island with a Pecan stain. all the colors go great! good luck.

I once did a showroom floor in plain wood planks which I bought from the lumber section of the lumberyard. They were probably 4 or 6" wide, I don't remember precisely. But I do vividly remember getting down on my hands and knees and white washing them and then adding some taupey streaks to them. They lasted years with retail traffic.

Good luck. If you find a mill near you look on line for deals before you go there. I found our wood floor for 3.20 a sq ft. I saved over 4,000.00 we hired some one to install it that was recommended from the store. its Called Baird Brothers in Canfield Ohio. they take orders on line as well, so if you find the sample of what you want somewhere else but its cheaper at Baird, go for it. It would have been 10.00 or more a sq ft at any flooring center or Home Depot or Lowes. let me know. pics please.
