Melons are growing, then dying

I am a new gardener who has had lots of success with green beans and peppers, but my melon plant is stumping me. I have a green fleshed pineapple melon that is growing very well. It has lots of flowers and the vine has spread out in all directions. A number of melons have started growing, one has even gotten about the size of a baseball. However, they all die on the vine, most of them are still very small when they die. I'm not sure if I'm over or underwatering, or if it's something else. It's been a very wet summer. If you have any advice please do pass it on!
