I would recommend cherimoya instead. It is better, imo, and it is more subtropical and can withstand cooler air. Next would be atemoya. Again, imo, these are the best 2 choices.

Thanks for responding. You make an interesting point--perhaps atemoya would be a better second since it's a hybrid between the two. Anyway, I have decided to grow primarily cherimoyas--I haven't been very impressed with the sugar apples I've gotten at local fruit stands anyway.

That is ok, You can't go wrong with Cherimoyas!
