Put down soil over the top and plant in that if you really want avoid pulling the plastic up first. Poking more hole in it first would probably be a good idea, you don't want water to get trapped on it during future extra wet conditions that might occur (if it is level) or have parts of the lawn slip (if it is sloping).

Mahalo for the info. I am having cinder dirt delivered for our backyard. i will dump some in the front and plant grass over it. I may put it off though until we have rains in the forecast! It's been quite dry up here in Kaumana.
