While the veriagated Hala is not native, it is at least in the same family and should respond in much the same manner. For a plant that likes drier climates, I have found that the Hala seedlings are sensative to too little moisture.

Thanks Much John. I think that I had found that some time ago but was curious if anyone had any other experience. I am planning on giving it a try with 6' long prop roots (rather than the small ones placed in sand as he recommends). Thx much for the link!
