The real deal on Panax

I just built a wood house here on Kauai and planted a panax hedge - grown by just shoving my neighbors cuttings in the ground, and the hedge is just starting to grow. Want it for privacy and windblock. Should I yank it out now to avoid termites ? What attracts them to the plant and do they really transfer easily to the house ? Or will they just stay in the Panax plants ? The hedge is about 12 feet from the house on the windward side. Anyone know the real deal on this ?

    Howzit pueokai,
I have heard the deal about termites. I am not sure, but I think that beetle thats killing all the wiliwili trees might be going after panax hedges. My neighbor had a panax hedge, they look nice if you keep them at a reasonable height. Dont let them get too tall. You might want to call the UH experimental station about the facts regarding termites. Good luck!

This says they don't have any special attraction for them.
