chickens in your garden

I have roughly a 26x40 garden. I wanted to put chickens in it and was wondering what would be the best kind and how many. I want some that will keep un-wanted bugs,animals,birds,ect. out. I was also wondering what they will eat of my plants i have onions,peppers,tomatoes,

cucumbers,cabbage,zechuni,pumpukins,and parsely.

They will clean out the bugs and slugs and snails, but they will also eat much of what you planted if they can reach it. We use them to weed and de-bug our rasberry patch, and they do a good job. They do eat eveything in it they can reach except ferns. Most of the berries are out of their reach.
