That's my favorite mulch but I don't see it around Central Florida very often. I've kind of given up even looking for it. For a couple years I would haul a few bales back from Atlanta every time I went up there but now I've got a smaller car so that plan doesn't work anymore!

I'm from South Carolina, and that's about the only thing we use up there. Like you, I've given up on finding it until the other day when I saw some bailed pine straw at a Deland residence. I actually went to the person's house to ask about the source, but no one answered the door. Until I read your post, I never thought that maybe someone brought it from another state!

volusia shed company, at the southernmost tip of deland, the last exit onto I-4 from 17-92, has pine straw at reasonable rates. they also deliver.

Here is a link that might be useful: w volusia shed co

Volusia Shed in DeLand has it. $4.95 a bale, the last time I checked.

Thank you for information!

is pine straw just dry pine needles??

Yes - dry pine needles. Very pretty and stays relatively fluffy but doesn't blow away. The needles blend together like pick-up sticks, I guess. Less bugs than with pine bark mulch. In Atlanta, the highest I ever saw it was $3.50/bale. I would have to make too many trips to Deland to get enough for my yard but if they were selling it closer to east Orlando I would consider it. Let's see, how many bales could I get in a Honda CRV? Maybe 3 or 4 at a time.

gotcha
I use pine straw for my chicken's bedding both in the coop and their nest boxes, they used to love it.
