Look What I found

I was working in the garden when I saw a big yellow swallowtail nectoring on the big yellow zinnias. It was taking it's time, flying from flower to flower, so I went inside and got the camera, and when I got back

The butterfly was gone. So, I decided to take a few flower pictures: First, I found this little fellow on the butterfly bush:

Then I decide to take a picture of the lily and the Mandevilla vine:

What's that on the top flowers? A hummingbird. She then flew down and enjoyed some of the black and blue salvia.

When I tried to get closer, she flew away, so I decided I'd take a picture of the firecracker plant,

and it had a visitor:

But don't think she will ever let me get close, each time I tried...

She flew away. Wouldn't you just know it?

Those are all great shots and even better because you made it all into a nice story. Love the little hummer. Your zinnia is a beauty too. I never get pictures of the butterflys, I don't even try as they always fly away.

I enjoyed your photos of butterfly, hummingbirds and flowers. I've never been able to get a good photo of a hummingbird. They are too fast for me.

Ooooh! What a tingler that would be, Pat.

Rita and Debra, I was surprised when she flew in front tome when I had the camera. She usually has this sensor and she flies out after I put the camera up.

Of course the liklihood of getting her picture is inverse proportion to my desire to get it:)
    Thanks for looking.

Beautiful butterflies and I love the hummers. The are going wild here, all over the place. I'm having a hard time keeping nectar in the feeders.. Thank to both of you for posting these beauties...Ellie

I loved the story and those hummers are very hard to capture.

That little birdhouse by the Mandivilla is very cute. Never heard of a firecracker plant, but I like it:)

    Thaks Ellie
Vickie, that little birdhouse was a Christmas present a couple of years ago. The firecracker plant is a tropical, so it has to overwinter indoors, but it isn't particular...just so long as it is watered occasionally, and it doesn't get too cold, it is fine. and the hummers do adore it.

Rita, next time you try to get a picture of a hummer, wear a red shirt. It will come closer if only to investigate and you might even get it to land on you. We used to have them in the city but not here on the farm. I tried the red shirt thing so I know it works....sometimes. Marg

Thanks to all for looking. I have been working in the daylilies today and the little scoundrels have been flying all around me and fighting each other like bandits.

All I'd have to do to run them away is get the camera.

The butterflies did come to see me today, however. And they posed nicely too.
