Thanks for the web site. I am already noticing that, in spite of its beauty, the willow is a messy tree, dropping branches in large numbers. I wonder if anyone has tried trimming back the branches in the winter, similar to what many people do with crepe myrtles?

Willows are just messy trees. I don't think there's much you can do to stop that. But it doesn't mean they aren't beautiful. They provide shade along the shore for tiny fishlings. They don't do well in storms here once they reach a mature size so it's probably not a problem you'll have for very many years! I would enjoy it while it's here and maybe plant a young tree of another variety nearby that can continue to grow once this willow is gone.
