Just curious, could you tell us what the general price range for a door like this costs?

The price depends on door size, frame finish and type of glass selected, and any other particular specs related to your project. It typically starts at over $1,000 for a single car door, uninstalled.

For a 12x7' door the cost is almost $8,000.

I bought this garage door. It was close to $6000. Beware--it faces east and the sun heats it as hot as a stove burner. It's so hot that you cannot touch it. In turn, my garage gets over 100 degrees at times. I wish I could find a good solution to this problem, as the heat is ruining everything in the garage. I have laminated double pane glass. And I put window coverings with block out on the inside. Didn't solve anything. It is on the coast in Southern California. I have spoken to Clopay, and they suggest I buy another door.

Clopay Building Products is pretty lousy. After posting the above message asking me to send them a private message, I did just that. A woman named Cindy called me and led me to believe they may be able to help me with my problem of the heat from the Avante door. I asked for her direct phone line, and she gave me a general number that does not allow me to call her back directly. They have not called me or my dealer back. It seems that Clopay was only interested in the their own damage from my post above and not from helping me as a consumer. Not at any time or any where in Clopay's information or on their website do they disclose that this Avante garage door should not be installed where direct sunlight does not hit it. I am still having the issue with this door. I have expensive audio visual equipment in my garage that is being ruined by the heat. In fact, the plastic clips, that keep the glass in place, warped and fell out due to the heat. I have called Clopay customer service several times, and my dealer, as well, has called. They tell us there is nothing they can do, and I have to get another kind of garage door. In the above comment, they claim that this is the first time they have heard of this situation. That is a lie. I would not do business with Clopay if you don't want to left hung out to dry. I am thinking of getting a lawyer.

Every application is different. We recommend that you contact your local Clopay dealer to view the site and make a recommendation. Tempered insulated frosted glass is available.

Sorry for my typo--does NOT stand up to direct sunlight/sun heat. I do not recommend this garage door. They told me that somewhere in their disclosure (probably very tiny print, as I've still not seen it) they state this door has a rating of R0, whatever that means. Since they are directly marketing to end consumers on Houzz, they should be more direct and specific, as most end users do not know what R0 mean. They told me that my contractor (who chose and ordered this door) should have known the application was not correct. Beware!

I purchased a door like this (manufacturer Martin NOT Clopay) facing east with morning sun in SoCal. It gets hot here but my garage always stays at least 10 degrees cooler than the outside temp. I love this garage door. It was a good upgrade for us and well worth the price. I don't understand the people that complain.

Hi aavp thanks for your post! We are in the middle of spec'ing out our new house -- have a 4 car garage we were thing of using the Avante series but after reading your experience, I'm gonna stay away. I have a $15k sound system in my m3 and would hate having it ruined by heat!

Clopay has been working with aavp for several months to understand and resolve the issue with her garage door. Since it was introduced in 2004, the Avante has been installed by architects in extremely warm climates such as Florida, Southern California, Las Vegas, Arizona, etc. without issue. The choice of garage door should be made with the location, application, and exposure in mind. An architect or professional garage door dealer can help you evaluate the options so you get the best door for your needs.
