Do you have a sweet tooth??

I am really in love with the cultivars I have in the "candy series" by Stamile. They open beautifully here and are gorgeous. So far I have Wineberry, Huckleberry, Custard, Elegant, Peach and Pink Cotton Candy.

What are your favorite Candies and why? Are there some other outstanding ones I should add?

Thanks for your input!

I think one that really jumps out is Awesome Candy. It started blooming on 15 June and is still blooming this morning.....over 2 months later. I like that kind of performance...no matter what the colour's are...:)

Next time I'll try and remember to focus the pic...LOL

Wow Rick!! Who needs re-bloomers when you have performance like that?? How long have you had this particular plant...and how large is it? I may need to add this one to my list!!

Rick - That is a terrific performance! I love the bloom on AWESOME CANDY, but it has performed poorly for me in both years I've had it. That may be because of the drought we're having or where I have it planted.

The best performing candy I have is STRAWBERRY CANDY. A lot people don't like its coloring, but it sure puts out the blooms. And, it is one of the few reliable rebloomers I have - even in a drought.

    STRAWBERRY CANDY

SWEET SUGAR CANDY is a favorite because it is a good late bloomer.

BLACKBERRY CANDY has great color contrast. It has only rebloomed for me once in three years though.

ELEGANT CANDY really put on a show this season and is a terrific pod setter. I have it planted in part shade, so it doesn't rebloom for me.

Elegant Candy and Custard Candy do well for me, but so far no rebloom on either. These are fairly new for me, but I have high hopes for them. Both open well, have a lot of scapes for their size & age, plus good color & perfect form.

Wineberry Candy has constant problems opening for me. The last few scapes of WC had nice flowers this season, but the early blooming scapes look awful most of the time. This one gets one more year & then it's gone if it doesn't show significant improvement.

Strawberry Candy has pretty blooms that always open well, and are a rich warm pink, but not orangy as many people complain about. Unfortunately, none of my three plants (in 3 different locations) has increased greatly for me, & of course no rebloom. Lack of rebloom here is not necessarily a serious drawback, because not many dls do rebloom here, but I have heard of locals that have gotten rebloom on this one, so I have been a bit disappointed. I just wish that they would grow a bit faster for me. These have been in the ground for 4 full years now, so they need some giddyup!

I have never been interested in the candies until recently-But DREAM CANDY and PRECIOUS CANDY have been great additions. I am also looking forward to ROCK CANDY next spring.

Along with Elegant Candy and Wineberry Candy, Raspberry Candy looks and performs excellent in my garden. Sungold Candy was great in a local garden and I have one fan. I expect good things from this one. I am not a big fan of Strawberry Candy but I do have to admit it is doing well this year. It is one of my wife's favorites.

They are all luscious. I have Strawberry Candy and it is not orangy here either, but rather a warm pink as leslie said.

Dale - PRECIOUS CANDY was kind of disappointment for me. Nearly all the blooms on the first scapes were badly splotched and slow to open. Where I live, there is heavy dew most mornings. The flowers on rebloom were better. And I'm hoping for improvement next season.

    PRECIOUS CANDY

Edward - I forgot about RASPBERRY CANDY until you mentioned it. That one is a great performer!

Dot - I really like the looks of Special Candy and Rock Candy. If I had any space left I would add those. I'll look forward to seeing your photos of your new candies next year!

My son liked Rock Candy so I ordered it even though it is dormant, but I figured if it does well for the Stamiles it should do well for me. Sherry Candy was by far the favorite of my new ones this year. It bloomed then rebloomed more beautiful, PLUS it is like a whole bouquet of flowers because it is different colors, some days peach, some pink and some lavender. Thanks for the kind comments.

Wow, I'm hooked and that's not a good thing. You people are killing me with all the beautiful pictures of your daylilies. Now I want one of all of them. Being on a fixed income that will be DREAMING.

Sherry Candy, Precious Candy, Special Candy really are beautiful. I live in the Piney Woods of East Texas and will start looking for some of these daylilies to add to my iris beds.

I've stayed on here way too long this morning looking at all ya'lls lovely daylilies. I've got to get up and go to church now. I will log back on after church to look at more of ya'lls breath taking dayliles.

Abbydales, for the Candy's, I've got:

STRAWBERRY - Good color, long bloom time

ELEGANT - better color this year

WINEBERRY - so-so performer this year

CUSTARD - THE workhorse - lots of buds and long bloom

Sure liked the pictures and interesting comments. Worth checking out the newer varieties this winter...

Here is the list of "Candies" that I have so far:

    Blackberry Candy (new)
    Blueberry Candy (new)
    Cherry Candy (new)
    Custard Candy (new)
    Dream Candy (new)
Elegant Candy (great performer in my garden)
Exotic Candy (love this one too)
    Huckleberry Candy (new)
    Licorice Candy (new)
Orchid Candy (wonderful performer for me)
    Peach Candy (new)
    Plum Cnady (new)
Raspberry Candy (my oldest candy and a great bloomer and increases well too)
Strawberry Candy (Blooms a long time, increases well)
    Sweet Sugar Candy (new)
Wineberry Candy (A wonderful performer in my garden)
Lots of the ones marked new above were all obtained through trades witha wonderful dl friend and I'm looking forward to seeing them perform in my garden.

But as you can see, I definitely have a "sweet tooth"!

I have all of the Candies except Rock Candy. Is there someone out there that has an extra fan of Rock candy that would be willing to trade? Several of my Candies have up to 6 fans and I would be willing to do up to a 3 plant for 1 trade.

    Hi,

I have two candies, both new this year so I haven't seen them bloom yet. Mine are Blueberry Candy and Sweet Sugar Candy.

I didn't know that there was a Huckleberry Candy, what colour is that one? That Raspberry Candy is gorgeous. And am I right in thinking that there is one called Dewberry Candy? Does anyone know what that looks like?

    Nikki

There is a Dewberry Candy and Tinker's has a pic of it.Just type in the name and search it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Tinker's Database

Nikki, Huckleberry Candy is a cream with a violet/blue eye and it is very lovely. My girls and I saw it at a display garden this summer and loved it. When the owner asked us which daylilies were our favorites, we all mentioned that one and she very generously gave us a plant of it to take home.
I have loved hearing about the other candies, and have added a few "must haves" to the top of my wish list.
    Thanks all!

If you type *Candy in the cultivar name space and then hit seaech,it will bring up all the registered Candy ones and any others with candy in the name.
