groundcover again?

Does anyone know of a groundcover that will grow in total shade? Everything I've read or heard about says no. I was hoping that one of you guys WHO HAVE HELPED ME SO MUCH IN THE PAST,could think of something that others have forgotten about. I'm crossing my fingers here.

I have neighbors who use Asiatic Jasmine as a ground cover in a fully shaded location. It probably took about 3 years to fill in really well, but now it looks great.

Oooh! This sounds great! Will it grow in our sandy "soil", or will I need to truck in loads of compost and fertilize constantly?

If Asiatic Jasmine don't work for you, then you are stuck with mushrooms or toadstools as your last choice.

    LOUFLORALCITYZ9 CAN YOU DO THAT?

John Thanks I'm releived.I've tried Thyme,Mint & purple jew. Nothing.

Tom My buddy. What is that comming out of pic 2. It looks too narrow to be a hose, or is it? What are watering requirements? Oh stick around, I have so many questions about so many different things.

I love swaths of well maintained asiatic jasmine. It's used generously in the public areas of the community where I live. Once it's well established - in sun or shade - our community landscape manager says the irrigation can be turned off unless there's an extreme drought.

There are also beautiful and very large live oaks in the area. Cast iron plant (aspidistra elatior) is sometimes used in the deep shade created by these trees along with the asiatic jasmine. The dark green, leathery leaves of the cast iron plant provide an attractive contrast to the jasmine foliage. - June

It's the dang FIOS cable that the cable company has not buried for TWO AND A HALF MONTHS! That's a whole nuther story :-(

Water during extreme drought, otherwise neglect it and it will be happy ;-)

June Thanks for the tip. I dont know what a cast iron plant is but I will definitely look for one.

Tom sorry to bring up such a sore subject...I didn't know.
I just thought it was some secret contraption for the aj. You know me I need all the help I can get. But it does sound like that plant has my name on it.

Purple Heart and Wandering Jew look good as ground covers, I've seen mass plantings under oak trees that were stunning. Also Hostas. Also Caladiums. But they freeze back in the winter. The Asiatic Jasmine doesn't freeze. I love it but my husband forbids it because it does spread all over the place if you aren't diligent with the trimming. But you can take a weed wacker to it and even mow it with the lawnmower at a high blade setting. English Ivy is also a good ground cover, but again, you have to keep it in bounds.
