Favorite Hosta

how about a picture of your favorite hosta (at this time)

favorites can change a lot this time of year as things are growing, opening, changing etc...

right now mine is war paint.

It had a rough year thanks to the deer last year but it looks like it is bouncing back fine.

The color is great right now as it is just starting to open up - pic does not do it justice

Oh...seeing your War Paint makes me sad :( Mine didn't come back this year. I don't see any evidence of voles, either, so no idea what has happened to it. I just went out to dig around in that spot to see if I can find any evidence it ever existed. There are some roots, but no hosta. Interesting.

    Very pretty, though!

I forgot my favorite right now...Rainbow's End:

    ~Angie

Angie that is a great picture, you should submit it to the hosta library.

It looks fantastic, I can see why it is a favorite.

You are at least a few weeks ahead of us with the weather. I still have hostas just poking up.

I think the sales on rainbow's end are going to jump.

Ooooh! That Rainbow's End is BEAUTIFUL!!! Where did you buy it? Yeah, greenguy, if I can afford it, I WANT IT!

    Char

    Hi Char,

I got Rainbow's End from Plant Delights last year. In fact, I just saw a pic from when I bought it, and it has really grown quite a bit since last year! Here's last year's photo for comparison:

You didn't really think you'd only get one from me did you?!

Frosted Jade is from last year. It survived in a pot (unlike some others I won't mention). It's big and healthy looking so I love it. The group shot is 3 from mail order this year. I love the difference in colour of the 3 of them.

I could come here every day and post a new favorite. Here is a pretty one today. Silver Bay new from Hallson's.

    mary - please do
    here is my favorite today

no one else has a favorite hosta?

how about june - even with the goofey spring mine has never looked better

You twisted my arm greenguy. Here is Dream Queen. A slow grower, but it is a keeper for the south.

Yesterday my favorite was Aristocrat. Can I pick a new one today?

    Your June is absolutely gorgeous!

Today my favorite is Tokudama Flavocircinalis (now that it finally came up). The date is wrong in this photo - was taken yesterday.

pick new favorites as often as you like lets get some more great pictures going

You guys a zone or two ahead of me have hostas up and leafed out where some of mine are still just poking up

my tok is just starting and it is getting off to a poor start, i guess it did not handle the bad weather as well as june did

really weird, we had a very bad spring with the late freeze and my june has never looked so good (not even close to as good) I guess it is true some hostas thrive on abuse

    and here is another pic

Great pictures everyone. The colors do seem very intense this year don't they. I don't think Blue Betty Lou has ever been so blue. I'll get some pictures today. Meanwhile, here are some from several days ago.

Today it is Heartsong. It has such a pretty frosty sheen.

A closer look at a leaf.

my eskimo pie sported into a streaked version. if you look at the one leaf in the back it will be similar to yours onece it opens up. I have a very small piece of the real eskimo pie from this plant planted in a different location in my yard.

Great pics everyone. I am going to take some more soon ;~)

St Elmo's Fire 1st spring for me planted it last fall and couldn't wait to see it come up.

Great looking St Elmo's Fire - I really need a bright one and I think that is the one I want!

It's gotta be Thunderbolt today (for me)

    Or maybe Permanent Wave

How about Blue Angel doing and impersonation of Niagara Falls?

This thread is going to get me in trouble!! Some of these babies I forgot that I wanted to add to my collection.

Here's my super favorite so far this year, Liberty!! She far outshines Sagae, who I still love.

Omg, silly me, I meant to post to the gallery and ended up on the forum instead. Put it down as a wrong click of the mouse, being too tired from working all night, or just one of those blonde moments I'm famous for, whatever, but I sure didn't mean to upstage your thread, it's a wonderful one. So for those who read my thread, it was an inocent mistake on my part.

Today it is Frosted Jade. I lost one last summer. Thanks to the person who gave us the heads up about Hill Gardens in Maine. I ordered two and put them together. Not bad for a first year plant. I just hope it holds up. I like it.

Wow..I'm new around here...hope you all dont mind if I add another to the thread. I am getting 'hosta envy' looking through this board at everyones beautiful plants! Wow!!!

I'll post my newest additions..this is one of the Clifford's Comets that I picked up a few weekends ago. They are doing really well..and I love how nice and bright they are. Still a baby..I cant wait to see how nicely they do in the years to follow!

BTW...how do I get a pic to show up in the thread rather than having it be a link?

That's a pretty nice plant for a baby!

    Couldn't resist adding todays favourite

Rookie, all you have to do is copy the html line (the second one) in photobucket You paste it into your post. It should show up in the preview. Nice CC. I wish I could grow the whites.
    Mctavish what a perfect GE.
Here is my latest fave Laura and Darrell from a few days ago. It is blooming and I actually have a pod forming

Wonderful pics. But I don't see all of them. Do I need to do something to see the rest? I don't see Angie's pic of Rainbow's End, McTavish's pic of Frosted Jade, Christmas Pageant etc., Lavendargirl's Carolina Blue.

My all-time fave is Liberty. I have to get around to taking some pics though.

even with the odd spring this one has never looked so fantastic
