check for proliferations.

Leave the kiki's (proliferations) on the scape as long as possible. As long as the scape is green underneath the prolif. it is being fed. One way to prolong the scape life is to set a seed pod on the scape. When the roots are 1" long or longer you can plant them. I like to stick them next to the mother plant which makes it easier and quicker. I have sawdust mulch (from cat litter) around my daylilies so the prolifs stay moist because of the mulch. If your ground gets too dry at times you should cut them and put them in water with the water just above or at the crown area of the prolif. Change the water frequently and be sure to label the prolif if you have them from more than one cultivar.

I have seen a lot of Prolifs on my last year seedlings, the same thing happened last year. I find that Prolifs develop on the seedlings much more often than they develop on mature plants. Has anyone else experienced this as well?

Yes, Virgo, me too. I get some on established plants but the seedlings are the eager beavers.

I also have one on a seedling. Mine even has roots forming. I really don't want to take it off as there are pods on it and they are not quite ready. What should I do to prevent the roots from drying out?
