Here is a link that might be useful: duranta

Hi Kat ~ thanks for your input, but it's not duranta. I have two of those and love them. These small trees that I've seen are in bloom on Federal Hgwy in WPB and also at the Main Library's main entrance.

I checked out the purple flower thread from March and looked up all mentioned and did not find this there either.

Guess I'll have to take a picture of it to post here.

Thanks again Kat. The butterflies love my duranta. I have one with variegated leaves also.

Could be a lancepod tree ??
Just guessing :)

The Crape Myrtles are blooming now. Is it one of them?

Thanks for your input jupiterplants and regine, but the trees are neither of those either.

I was just doing some more research and you might be right about it being a form of crape myrtle. I found the following that looks like it may be it, Lagerstroemia speciosa - Queen's Crepe Myrtle. In fact, I'm almost positive this is it. I found another website about it, http://www.mgonlinestore.com/QueensCM/

Thank you all for your input. I really appreciate the time and thought from each of you.

All I can say is WOW! I'm on the hunt for a small flowering tree also (since removing my ugly podacarpus...).

I don't want anything that will grow past 15ft. and flowers are mandatory. I might have to check this out further.

I read on another website that you can keep this trimmed, so you could keep it however big you wanted it. It can also grow in a pot.

It sure is beautiful!!!

I have the Queen's Crepe Myrtle. Mine is still small, about 6' tall. My neighbor's tree gets HUGE!! It has multiple trunks and they are probably 6-8" in diameter.

The height is the problem.

Thanks bodig. I've only seen the 10' high or so ones around and they are so pretty. If we do get one, we will keep it trimmed.

There are lots of Queen's Crepes in palm Beach county. However, they get big, mine have been in just over three years and are more than 20ft tall. Make sure you trim the heavy seed pods off the tree before any tropical storms. They are heavy and without the seed pods they will be more able to stay straight in the wind.
