Anyone started 2011 orders yet?

I have! And I said I "probably won't buy any next year" pfffttt..RIGHT. So far only 4 though!

Heavenly Angel Ice

Snake in the Grass Boo

Autumn Wood

Brown Witch

I saw HAI around here quite a bit last year, and I just couldn't resist..everyone says it has great plant habit as well as beauty, so I think it is a wise pick. Snake in the Grass Boo I think is just so unique and beautiful, I'd buy it even if it didn't have wonderful habit, which it is supposed to anyway. Autumn Wood I've wanted for a couple of years and it is has been sold out before I got to it. And Brown Witch because I love brown and it is a good plant. I've noticed that now that I'm running out of room my orders are getting smaller because I'm choosing plants that have both a beautiful face and great habits, whereas I used to sometimes be swayed just by "ooh! pretty!"

A couple that I wanted this year that were a)sold out where I was buying from and b)too much for me to spend were :

North Wind Dancer

Magic of Oz(Oh! I want it!)

White Juan(brand new intro by Coral Kincaid, I think it is beautiful)

and I waffled over various green spiders. And ended up settling on none. I think I'll look around over the winter and find out which are the best before making my purchase.

Anybody else get started early?

I have ordered one daylily so far and I am waffling over a couple of others. I ordered Harper's Bazaar (Steve Moldovan)and I am considering In My Pink High Heels (Judy Davisson)and Lemon Curls (Diana Waldrop).

Weeper - It sounds like you are making wise choices. Snake In the Grass Boo and Autumn Wood are great performers here.

After buying several daylilies that arrived this fall, I'm trying NOT to buy any for spring in 2011. Of course, I've made this vow before and never been able to keep it.

I have Memorial To Steve reserved, and the rest I'm trying to whittle down. Mainly ones with super high bud counts or very lates.

Well so far I have some that will be arriving next spring. Live Every Day, Lotus Position, Tickle Me Elmo and Bass Gibson. This winter I will also be making decisions on reducing the number of daylilies in the garden.

Weeper both HAI and NWD are in my garden and should really put on a great show next year. Gary Schaben's daylilies grow absolutely great in my garden of course they are still in their home state which seems to make them beyond happy.

Dani I was lucky enough to get MTS this summer and am looking forward to seeing it bloom next year.

I have a list but I've got to get it under control LOL. I will probably get a few more of Curt Hansons and then see what hybridzers I haven't ordered from before to add in.

My best time to plant is in the fall. A couple of weeks ago at Floyd Cove I picked up Going Green, Cosenza and Volia Francois. Their bonus was a small pot of Bella Note. My shopping is done!

The only two on order for spring are NEON FLAMINGO by Jamie Gossard and AMETHYST TEARS by Margo Reed. However, I just got back from Lilyhemmer last night. There I won a 2010 from Don Eller, RED HOT CHILI QUACKERS and I won another at the auction, AARON BROWN from Don Herr (had wanted that a long time.) So all four of those will be new bloomers for 2011! Am hoping to restrain myself from further ordering and actually get rid of another 30 or so to bring inventory down under 700 by spring. We'll see how that works.

I have always wanted to go to Lilyhemmer, but will have to wait until I retire, ( just 4 more years )
    that was a side note,
Anyway, I went to the Auction, and so far,( and I know there will be more!! ) I have Spacecoast Shell Cracker, double order, Hayride Kisses and Candid Colors. I plan on more Hansons and Hansens!!!

I know it's shocking (at least for me) but I haven't bought anything for 2011.

You guys are showing such restraint that I feel embarrassed to admit that I plan on ordering a LOT in 2011. Since I am new to the daylily 'bug' and only have about 30 so far, I just made a huge raised bed to be reserved just for daylilies and its HUGE. I will spend the long, cold winter making my list and checking it twice....I think I'm going to be very, very naughty in 2011...LOL.

I made 2 orders to Maryott's this past September and one to Marietta's and was so pleased that I started making my
wishlist for 2011 soon after I got those in the ground!

No worries, Celestialrose! Alot of people on this site have been doing his for years and have already been thru the massive orders. I think I ordered over 100 my second year alone! I've changed my tune now. For everyone that comes in, ones gotta go. And my tastes have changed. I'd rather have 2 or 3 nice ones (read- money) than alot of cheaper ones at this time. When I really started to pay attention, I realized there was more to it (for me) than just a pretty face....budcount, branching, hardiness, etc. all make up a great plant, too. Everything kind-of evolves!

Weeper, great picks and I agree, Coral's White Juan is beautiful. Her listings are huge this year. I bought four from her[so far]. Spacecoast Citrus Kid, Weatherly, Gaudy Gaudy, Janet Benz. Besides those,I also got Lava Flow,[thank-you Rita for posting the beautiful pics of this stunner] Eyes on the Prize, Leslie Renee, On Line, Woman at the Well, Bill Munson, Rose Vitorious, Symphony of Praise, Angel Walker and Bell of Ashwood as single fans. I also have a single fan of Bristling Fury reserved. Pretty much finished[hopefully]. Rita, I know you'll be getting something for those New spaces you created. Happy shopping all, cheers, lloyd

Celeste, in the winter, when we're all bored and dreaming of spring, we usually do a daylily alphabet, posting pictures of our daylilies from A-Z, and that usually spurs the, Oooh! I gotta get that one! Making our lists longer. :)

I have no plans to order any for next year, but that will probably change when next year comes around!

I'm really trying to slow down as I have so little room left...but every year there are a few that I want for hybridizing. Keith Miner had some great offers on the LA a couple weeks ago and it is so dead there that I was able to pick them up without competing bids. Most were in the $10 range with 2 in the $20s. Here's what I have coming in for spring:

    ACROSS THE UNIVERSE (Trimmer '04)

APRIL LAQUINTA (Petit '06) I have a nice seedling out of this and want to back cross.

    BETTER THAN BUTTER (Carr '04)

    BIG YELLOW TAXI (Trimmer '05)

HOW BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN MUST BE (Carpenter '02)

WONDER OF IT ALL (Carr '06) Saw this in a friend's garden this year and had to have it.

I have been very good so far. Have not looked at the Lily Auction at all. Of course the bad snowey winter weather when I get really bored from being cooped up inside is not here yet!

Not even thinking about it yet .... after the new year I'll probably start thinking about it.

Also want more Curt Hanson daylilies ...

I got Lemon Curls off the Lily Auction. It is the first time I have ordered anything from Mark at Abundantdaylilies. I have heard good things about him so I am optimistic.

So far just two from the LA

    Linda Sierra (Peat 2006)

    RED SAPPHIRE (Bill Waldrop 2010)

but I bought so many last fall.

Oh, I have been hanging out at the auction, and now I have more coming in the spring, really am excited about these!!
    Sitting on a Cornflake
    Duck's Dark Side,
    Little Jet Setter.

I only have one coming so far from the Lily Auction:

    Faberge Easter

I really need to stay away from the auction because I just don't have room for any more.

For the Canadian shoppers: Barry Matthie has posted his sales list. I put in an order for his 5 for $100. I don't know which ones are still available and I added 5 alternates to my list. Hopefully I will be getting 5 of the following:

    Brave Ulysses (Benz 2008)
    Hot Pink Beauty (Benz 2008)
    Magnificent Frisbee (Benz 2008)
    Peaceful Warrior (Benz 2008)
    Walking Tall (Benz 2008)
    Waxwork (Benz 2009)
    Wide Road (Benz 2008)
What a Day for a Daydream (Rice 2008)
    When You're Lonely (Rice 2008)
    Subtle Knife (Lambertson 2007)

Yes I am on a bit of a Benz kick.

    Edward

Magnificent Frisbee should read Magnificent Pink Frisbee and What a Day For a Daydream should read All of My Love to You (Rice 2008). I should not post from memory. My memory is not that good.

    Edward

Okay, all done! I have for Spring:

    Memorial To Steve
    Blockbuster
    Heavenly Angel Ice
    Little Red Batam
    Blackberry Dragon
    Heaven Dragon Fire

I just have to wait for Song Sparrow to get their selection up. I want and orange Reckamp! Other than that, I done. I have a BIG list of ones that are being given to friend and some that are being moved or anaykzed for the trash.

I did order from Barry. Got Brave Ulysses, J.T. Davis, Peaceful Warrior, Walking Tall, Magnificent Pink Frisbee, Moment in the Sun, Voodoo Magic and Secret of Contentment. Hopefully I'm done.... LOL..cheers, lloyd

Lloyd, I hope you didn't get the last ones of Brave Ulysses, Peaceful Warrior and Magnificent Pink Frisbee. I haven't got confirmation on my order yet.

Hi, Edward. I placed my order by e-mail on Friday . But as of Sunday evening[when I called him] Barry hadn't received my e-mail so Hot Pink Beauty was sold out. I did get the last fan of Magnificent Pink Frisbee[as far as I know]..but you should check with him as Barry Oickle's order got in before mine and he ordered a bunch of stuff. I do know Wax Work was gone[Barrie and I have already worked out some trades on the Benzs so there will a stock built up here.] Did you see he had Material Girl? cheers, lloyd

Edward, as long as you're aware that none of the Benz cultivars are registered and these are just garden names - (meaning someone else could register a different cultivar using any of these names at any time.) I know that doesn't bother some people but you should know that up front. None of these daylilies will ever be eligible for any awards or to be entered in shows until the time comes that the hybridizer chooses to register them. Just as an FYI!

I don't mind if they are not registered as long as they are superior daylilies. Benz does seem to register in fits and starts.

Barry Matthie got back to me and three of the Benz daylilies were still available:

    Brave Ulysses
    Peaceful Warrior
    Wide Road

These were the three dormant ones and the first two have 30+ budcounts. The other two I am getting are Rice daylilies:

All of My Love to You
    When You're Lonely

For a complete change of pace, I haven't ordered any pink daylilies this year (even though I tried).

Will add more Strawberry Candy to my orders.

Here is a link that might be useful: Strawberry Candy Daylily

Others are Brown Witch,Designer Jeans, Final Touch, Lavender Rainbow

    From Montfort:
Bridgeton Celebrity, Lucky Draw, Golden Compass, Medieval Splendor,Milk Chocolate,Mystical Rainbow, Night Dreams,Now and Zen,Pewter lake,Sungold Candy,Emperor Dragon, Fooled Me, Fuchia Fashion, Lake Norman Spider,Lexington Avenue, Swirling Water.

    His own Hybrid Sweet Marilou.

Thats it for now, I still got to go thru my Flo and Hardy possibilities.

    I bought:
Wallingford Wooly Bully for the large bloom with teeth
    Overdrive for the color

    Thinking about:

    Crazy Mr Jim
    Green Inferno
    Neon Flamingo

I've just about completed my "wants" list, but it has 30-40 selections on it from four different Canadian sources, Floral and Hardy (Ont) and three Maritime places. There's no way I have garden space for that many plants, so I will have to cut it way . . way . .back. I have already decided to discard/give away many of my current, older cultivars. That's the only way I will have room for some new ones. I try to limit my new purchases to double fans being sold for $15 or less. That keeps my spending somewhat under control. I consider plants on sale as well.

    Set Me Free
    Phantom Returns
    Bewitching Eyes
    Vertical Horizons

Maryott's should be up any day and I will buy Prediction and Mexican Magic if he has them.

Well, I ended up with 14 news cultivars, but one is a present for my dad.

    Blackberry Dragon
    Blockbuster
    Frilled Peach Glory
    Heavenly Angel Ice
    Heavenly Dragon Fire
    Joy To The World
    Little Red Batntham
    Memorial To Steve
    Neon Flamingo
    Princess Of Alexandria
    Ruffled Orange Pretzels
    Scarlet Blessings
    Sears Tower (for my Dad)
    So beautiful To Me

I would love to have Heavenly United We Stand and Oh La La but I have to wait until the price comes down.

This should keep we occupied with crosses for a couple of years!

I think I have around 100 coming and it is crazy! I already have 1000 different ones and need to seek counseling. If this winter lasts any longer I will have to get a second mortagage on my house. I always think just one more. Need help in IL

I bought waaaaay too much including a 2011 collection from Jamie Gossard.
If our weather wasn't so terrible (keeping me indoors) maybe I could stay off of the LA and stop buying.

The whole Gossard collection for 2011? I'm SOOOOOO jealous!!!!

ooh, Baileycat! Gossards..*goes green* Hurrah! I'm trying out more of his things and am willing to pay the $$ (within reason) because I'm trying to go for things with high bud counts and great reblooming to get more outof the season...and I need the winter hardiness (it gets depressing to lose so many over the winter when I worked so hard for "flower spending $$)
I splurged on "Supermodel" and "Tornado Bird"
and also got on LA "Lemon Parchment", Primal Scream, and Broadway Charmer,Westbourne Easter Egg Hunt and Westbourne Snow Cream .
I really want Snake in the Grass, Boo! and Shark Attack ..hope they have some left!
I'm trying to hold back as I also have a ridiculous amount of seedlings from last year's thinking "wow! I can buy millions of seeds for the same price as daylilies".. butmost of them are buried in small containers feet deep in snow, so I guess we'll see what survives the winter :)

    Jealousy all around, baileycat!

Although, I'm hoping Hanson gets his collection up soon... ;)

So far, not as crazy as last year on the LA:

    Tom Adams
    SC Party Pinafore
    Ian Fleming
    Peppermint Somersault
    Nikki Schmith
    Mt Herman Intrigue

Just mulling which of Shooter's intros to add and then, I'll be finished (hah!)

I see a lot of new Stamille's at Maryotts. This year I decided to add more high bud count which are rebloomers.
Very happy to see Orange Grove added.

I went a little crazy on the lily auction that I mentioned earlier, over 100. I just remembered that I ordered the 2011 Rice collection and can't wait for all the lilies to start flying in my direction. The UPS man will be my new best friend! Any suggestions on how to stop? Theresa

I told myself last year no more daylilies. This winter I found a few that I just had to have or I would shrivel up into a little ball of dust and go poof! ;-D

    Sherry Lane Carr
    Addie Branch Smith
Kansas Kitten (thanks to some enabler on this forum)

Now I'm safe for another year...Maryl
