If I were you, I'd look at Mark Carpenter's website and Floyd Cove (Pat Stamile), and maybe Ladybug Daylilies (Dan Hansen). All have a variety of prices and a variety of styles and colors so that you can decide just how to make a garden that makes you smile. I have limited space also, and after purchasing/tossing for the past 5 years, my collection puts a huge grin on my face. A good place to start is to go to Charlotte's Daylilies. She has the Hybridizer's Corner where you can click on most of the hybridizer's websites. I've linked to that site. Good luck!

Ruth, I'm also in D/FW and have too much shade. My best bloomers in shade are Chorus Line (pink), Kent's Favorite Two (bright red), and Shady Lady (yellow with an eye). For sunnier spots, I recommend Bela Lugosi (deep purple), Mountain Almond (peachy pink), Islesworth (cream with purple eye), China Lake (lavender), Omomuki (a wonderful yellow). These are all older daylilies that are inexpensive (under $10) and widely available. I have other favorites, but these are heavy, reliable bloomers that do well in our summer heat and will always have a place in my garden. I also grow and love Ming Toy!

I highly recommend getting local advice. There is a very active daylily community in your area. Go to the AHS website and look up region 6. It will give you a list of the clubs active in your area, sources in your area and you can even find a popularity poll list for the region.

Favorites from growers in your area, like 'random harvest' should be favored, as they are tested in your area. 'Ming Toy' is also one of my all time favorites.

random harvest, thanks for the good suggestions.
Bela Lugosi is definately one I want.
I may have less shade soon. We have some major plumbing problems due to tree roots.
We've been saying for years that we should have that tree taken out because it's very close to the house and seems to be keep leaning.
