This is a great question Amber! I've been wanting to know the same thing. I'm gonna move mine out this summer too. I did put DS 70 outside this afternoon. I was thinking it was a safe hoya to handle sunlight. But I'd love to hear suggestions too.

Not so much. Some can take quite a bit of sun, but it's not ideal for them. Most grow under the canopy of the jungles, rain forests, etc., so most are happiest outside in a shady spot. A few grow in more arid circumstances and can take quite a bit of sun, but they will look pretty washed out. What species are your wanting to grow in sun?

there arent really any that i was really wanting to grow in full sun, i just have a wrap around porch on my house and there is one full side to the porch that i cant really use because it gets strong full sun from morning to evening... i hung some of my pudicalyx on that side for about a week to test it and they seem like they got somewhat sunscorched... i also had a lacunosa with them and it seemed like it didnt mind it so much, but its also not the hot summer yet so i dont think they would fair so well then... just wanted any input...

im also allowed to buy 3 new hoyas for mothers day and im having a really hard time trying to decide, so i though this might be a question to help a bit...

Hey Amber if your order them online, let me recommend SRQ Hoyas! She is having a sale this month too :)!!

I haven't experimented much, but I did find wayetii very tough. It survived all last summer in unfiltered western light. I tried DS-70 at the same time, but it required much more protection and ultimately I took it back inside.

Well I thought DS - 70 could handle it, but I too was bringing it back in today!!

Amber I'm not sure if you know and you may already but I'll mention it in case others may not know.... Not many indoor plants can go straight outside. You have to gradually acclimate them to the sunlight. It doesn't matter if it's a covered porch or not. You still have to gradually move them outside.

i really wanted to order from joni but she doesent have the one that i REALLY REALLY want, which is pubicalyx 'royal hawaiian purple'... its one ive wanted since i first got into hoyas and its about time i get one! i found that one and the 'red buttons' on the gardino site, so i think ill grab them both. and im thinking for my third that i might get H. bilobata

I have Hoya Bilobata. It is from Exotic Angels. It is an Easy Hoya!! And it blooms for months!! All I do is water when the pot starts to feel light, and it blooms like crazy!! It bloomed all winter as a matter of fact! She is taking a rest right now but I'm sure she's just amping up for another bloom marathon. The blooms are dark burgundy and the nectar tastes really sweet. It tastes and smells like butterscotch. I would definately recommend this one!!

i wont be placing a mothers day order this year after all... we need the money i would have spend on plants for bills that we are behind on... thanks for the positive review of bilobata though! ill try and remember to order that next year.

Some of the H australis take full sun, particularly ssp. rupicola, but also ssp. tenuipes. They're not "jungle" growers, they occupy exposed positions away from heavy canopy. I also think H. camingiana and H. densifolia as well.

That's a good point about cumingiana & densifolia. I might have to try a backup plant outside and see how tight I can get the leaves to grow.

I didn't know tenuipes was also one of the australises that grow on exposed surfaces. It looks much more jungle-y than succulent rupicola. I would assume sanae is also in this group?
