If given the choice I'd root them in perlite, but I've also rooted successfully in water on top of my aquarium light. I have found that reptile heaters are too hot and inhibit growth of roots sometimes, even causing them to rot. However seedling mats are less hot and do help rooting somewhat. This time of year, it may not be needed though.

I just stick them in a pot of soil and hang them up on a nail in bright light. No special treatment here.

Jaci, I believe you can use a reptile heating mat - at least I have heard you can. I don't think it is really necessary though. I have less than ideal conditions but never have any trouble rooting cuttings the old fashioned way - by just stickin'em in some dirt - especially at this time of year.
