It's so nice outside

I went out this morning and ahhhhhhhh it's wonderful outside! It feels like Christmas morning not literally, because it isn't THAT cold, but like God has given me a great gift and I'm all excited to open it. Enjoy your day!

    Good morning Amber!

Yes, I felt the same way, it is so nice outside. Good time for the cold season crops to be planted.

Yes, it's even a bit cooler down here. :o)

And it's going to be even nicer tomorrow! :-)

I wait all year for this weather!

Agreed! Although I'm stuck instide studying for International Trade and Consumer Behavior when I really need to be outside in the garden.

also, I guess the shift in the access of the earth has caused the shade pattern to shift in my bed. damn!

Yeah cooler weather; today I planted broccoli, cauliflower, kale, bok choy and green beans in containers. Tomorrow I plan to till the garden. It is still kinda wet, but I want to be ready by mid October. Next weekend I plan to start spinach. Please ask me about growing spinach in west central Florida. I had many years of failure with spinach. No problem now.

Well, my little patch for veggies is almost full as of tonight. Lots of pole beans, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, and squash. A little kale, probably fill the last few spots with kale, my huge basil and hot pepper plant round it out. Not sure where my lettuces are gonna go, but have another month to figure it out.

Great day, so nice and cool. I hope my tomatoes start setting fruit now, I was restless and set my plants the last week of August, three weeks early here so now I have 4' tall plants blooming like crazy but very little fruit set since the night temps here are just now dropping below 75F. I know better but sometimes I still do dumb things :-(

I do dumb things too. We have a local free paper with a gardening guide. I know I shouldn't believe her but I did. I planted butternut and watermelons and found out from the ag center that it wasn't right. I felt so sorry for the plants! I'm enjoying the cooler weather! I planted Feverfew and Catnip for the first time. Some nip for me for tea and some for Zackey. He has never been nipped before. My last cat didn't react to it. They are so much fun to watch when they are nipped!

It was a great day. Mowed the lawn, did some edging. Then grilled some burgers and had a nice family meal on the patio.

To be living in a Zone 8 or 9!

I am jealous of all of you. Enjoy the weather. Humidity in 10b has been relentless for the last month.. The few plants I put in the ground are huffing and puffing except the green beans off course. So rather than fight it I am planting four varieties of green beans this year. It may not sound so smart when the 'boys' will start coming home telling me they are not hungry rather than face another green beans dinner LOL

It's even cooled off down here! Mid to upper 80s and little humidity. I'm not completely trusting it just yet. The ten day outlook has our temps going back up again with a healthy dose of humidity to boot. I'll resist the urge to plant out my seedlings for a few more weeks. I'm with you Alex, have beans, beans, beans. Luckily we can't get enough of them and I've learned I need to plant more, actually. Can't wait for some added variety though!

It has been extremely humid here too and really hot this year. Several days above 100 and lot of upper 90's days. Don't be jealous. The plants suffered big time. No more summer gardens for us. We always pushed it. We will be solarizing the soil next year. We had nematodes for the first time this year. It's too hot for us and the plants in the summer and way too many bugs!

zackey, I never tried solarization. Not long after I started my garden 20 odd years ago it got a bad nematode problem. I have been growing black eye and crowder peas every summer. In September I run the mower over them and till in the residue. The nematodes are under control. I can grow carrots with very little damage. Lately I have settled on crowder peas - the ones I plant last all summer, unlike the black eyes I used to have to plant twice. Crackerjack marigolds also work well. A couple years ago I had a large container that got infested - from bad compost, I guess. I grew the crackerjacks in it for one summer and now no more nematodes. This is an 80 gallon container, so that was a lot of mix saved.

Here is a link that might be useful: Marigolds for nematode control
