Simple Pleasures

Took a stroll with my camera this morning and captured some of the simple beauty of gardening. Textures and shapes that delighted my eye, this morn.

The last one-when I came back in, Daniel, Dennis' son, was brushing Smudge. That made me smile most of all!

Hope you enjoyed my pics.

Wonderful stroll through your piece of paradise. What are the purple spikey flowers in picture #7? Also what are the blue flowers coming out of grassy foliage in picture #9? The picture of Daniel and Smudge is a homey, contented one.

    Enjoy your day.

    Hey FlowerLady
#7 purple flowers are Angelonia with Coral Porterweed.
#9 is a small bromeliad that's blooming. The blue flowers top a fuchsia flower spike. Here's another look. The Bromeliad is growing in 1/2 of a coconut. I have it raised above the water in one of my water garden tubs.

I think it is really neat how they form flowers on top of flowers!

beautiful, Cindee! and here's a picture from my garden this morning. - thanks for the blue pea seeds, Cindee!!

Nice photo's gals, thanks for posting them.

Beth, aren't they just the happiest little blue faces. they really look goog with pinks and purples!

Thanks for the info Cindee ~ I've had angelonia before, and I also have some bromeliads, but not one like that.

Beth ~ I just love that blue pea vine. It can get very out of hand though. :-) We have some along with alamo vine that have climbed the TV antennae pole. It makes the pole pretty. They drop seeds everywhere and soon you have lots of little babies, but those blue flowers are so vibrantly beautiful, so you pull up babies where you don't want them.

Katkin ~ I got your seeds today. DH emailed me that I got a yellow bubble wrap pkg from myself to myself and wondered what the heck that was. I told him that's how we gardeners share and send seeds. I look forward to seeing what you sent and getting them planted. Thanks again for sharing from your gardens.

I hope to get out and garden tomorrow. Bought some herbs from HD Wednesday so want to either get them in the ground or into pots, haven't decided which yet.

I've had to work the last three days, I work part-time managing an antique shop, so haven't been in the gardens. The rain we've been getting has been wonderful. My Queen Crape that we got a few months back is doing fantastic, lots of new growth. I'm looking forward to her blooms again next year.

Come on everyone, let's hear about and see some simple pleasures from your gardens.

Beautiful Ladies! A few of mine:

    Brenda

Beautiful, Brenda. Is that first one a hibiscus or abutilon? Nice angle. It really shows the leaf texture. Is that Lady Margaret Passie? I'd love to get that one.

Cindee, That first one is the purple cotton from you. And that is Lady Margaret. I tried to root a piece for you but it got eaten. I'll give it another go. I have a jewel orchid starting for you too, I just am not sure how to mail it. Any ideas?

Thanks for sharing your beautiful flowers. They look so happy in your garden.
The orange cosmos looks like the one in my garden. Mine is getting close to 6' tall now but sometimes the branches break off due to weight.

Bren, that's cotton? Holy Cow. Mine died so I never got to see it bloom. It is so pretty! Today I planted some purple Curly Leaf Basil and some romain lettuce babies.
    {{gwi:956133}}
Then I had fun with "Skippy" This long tailed skipper hung around the duranta golden dew drops for about an hour.

I was just outside trying to catch a photo of a butterfly or a bumble bee. I have a lot of different looking bees. I did catch 2 little guys flying from flower to flower and a big fat one on the pink poincianna.

    This bee is huge!

Oh joan m...you show off! Your photos are knock outs! What is that butterfly/moth 3 from bottom on porter weed? I have one around here, too and was wondering who he is.

Very nice pictures. My simple pleasure for the day was spending the morning weeding along my front fence. It was in the azaleas in the shade and very peaceful. I met many earthworms and some bugs. I pulled about a zillion camphor babies and some little oaks that the squirrels planted. I discovered how our fat little Boston Terrier gets out (right under the gate simple as you please). I enjoyed the breeze and the yard and the joggers and the bicylists going past. I thought about going back in and getting my camera but decided just to keep the memories instead.

Bren ~ Beautiful pictures. What is the bottom purple flower, an orchid?

Joan ~ Those are great shots of bees and butterflies. The butterfly is a White Peacock, if I'm not mistaken. How big does your pink poinciana get? I have some yellow seeds I'm about to plant. I have the orange/yellow one growing already. We had a Royal Poinciana and that got way out of hand so we had it taken out, and we're glad we did before Hurricanes Frances, Jeanne and Wilma. I'd love the pink one if it wasn't a monster tree.

Gardencpa ~ It sounds like you had a nice morning. My azaleas have blooms, do yours?

I didn't do any gardening today except for watering some herbs I bought the other day. We worked on rearranging stuff in our bedroom to do some more remodeling. This is boxes and stacks of stuff that were in the little bedroom that was a storage catchall, and we opened the two rooms up.

It was nice to get things more organized. Once we do more attic re-insulation, we'll put boxes up in the attic.

I look forward to getting out and playing in the dirt again soon.

FlowerLady, That is some kind of Orchid just don't know what or where it came from for that matter!
Joanm, your pink poincianna is absolutely gorgeous. I have my yellow one in a container for now. I have to get rid of some stuff that I am tired of to find a place for it. Hope it gets as nice as yours.

Thanks for the butterfly ID. I have them all over my yard. I have 4 of those dwarf poincianna, 1 pink, 1 yellow, and 2 orange. They are all growing as shrubs and they want to be huge. I just got out of the hot tub and I was listening to the yellow one bang on the top of the screen enclosure. It has to be 12' tall and half as wide. I just went out and took a look at the pink one for size. It is about 10 x 10. Here is a picture from the front. It has a hurricane Wilma lean to the right.

Here is the orange today. Both orange are about 10 x 6 right now.

This guy was watching me take pictures.

Nope. No blooms. They are looking a bit healthier than they did at one point and for that I am grateful. We won't see any blooms up this way for several more months.

Joan, that hawk is awesome, I have been seeing so many red shouldered hawks lately. Would you please same me some of your pink dwarf? I'd love to add them to my rock garden with Ricky's orange-yellow one.

    Great pictures!
Pink poincianna is absolutely delicious looking....

I have been spending way too much time in the yard recently as the weather is great...
Here are some of my current simple pleasures...

Now I do not want to leave home for work....I want to play in the garden!

Okay guys!!! From now on, I need some ID's on the pictures, pleeeeeeeeze???!!! Help me LEARN!

Gorgeous photos! Thanks so much for sharing! Very inspirational on such a gloomy day. Just FYI, you folks who were enjoying so much rain during the late summer and early fall, we are finally getting it here in Sanford, too. In fact, it has rained for four days straight, and my front sidewalk is now covered in a slippery mold that I have to pressure wash later. Don't want anyone falling down on their way to see me!

I wish I could go take some pictures, but it is way too stormy to take the camera outside, so I'll continue to enjoy yours! THANKS!!!

Thanks Susan. It has been in bloom for the longest time! The colors are smashing together.

Olya, your orchids are always so breath taking. Thanks for sharing.

Jan that 2nd Desert rose is so pretty! I love the blend of color. Your AV looks super, nice darker edges.

Some honey sweetness to send you to dreamland. The winds are snapping my Mexican Sunflower bush. The good news is i can take the honey fragranced blooms into the house.
