Cypress Mulch

Stopped in to exchange a propane cylinder and decided to fill up on mulch as well. Home Depot has cypress mulch for $1.37/2cu ft bag thru tomorrow (Sunday) - at least in Minnesota metro area. Price is regularly $2.75 a bag. May need to go back and get another load for that price.

Don't use nearly as much mulch as I used to. Now mainly for dressing up the edges of beds and for new beds/plantings.

oooh... I remember this sale from last year. I totally stocked up!

Is it limit 20 like last year?

Don't know about limit, I had enough room to buy 15 bags.

We went after dinner. 20 bag limit per customer, but all 3 of us went, just to make sure we could fool the system. Turns out we didn't need to. The clerk let us have as many as we want. So, we ended up making 2 trips...40 per trip. Total of 80. Last year I used 85.

It'll be interesting to see if 80 will do it with 2 new beds.

Interesting to hear that,Paul. I may have to check my local Home Depot. I need a lot of mulch. Phil

I used to use cyprus mulch for all my needs until I found out just how long it takes for the trees to grow!!! The first few years they grow at a normal rate but after that they take 40 years to grow an inch in diameter!!

I'm not a tree hugger by any means but knowing that made me rethink just how much mulch I really need to use. I use cedar for the most part now but have gone back to bare soil for all but 2 of my hosta beds which are near the back door. I had to weed a little more until the hostas got big, but now I just have to do the front edges of the beds

I don't mean to condem others for their choices, it's just my choice now. If I find out cedars take an equally long time to grow my goose is cooked 'cause I do like mulch in some places. lol

I don't think they cut the trees down just for the mulch. They make boards out of the Cypress first. Phil

NY state seems to have higher prices. I bought 30 bags of pine mulch at $2.33 per 2 cft at Kmart weeks ago, then now 40 bags of cedar mulch at $1.89 per 2 cft at Home Depot. Always 10 bags per trip in the trunk of my car. All that mulch really improved the look of my house to finally get into spring. But I must say, having spread 50 bags so far leads to resting up.
Forecats of 86 degree weather tomorrow at 5 pm, plus thunderstorms, must be fun.

I almost forgot this sale, until I saw it on here! We went to HD and got 15 bags for my 3 new beds, thanks guys!

It must be a northern thing! Not only did my local Home Depot not have the cheap Cypress mulch, they had no Cypress mulch at all! I'll go to Wal-Mart. Phil

The demand for cypress mulch has outpaced the refuse from lumber milling and trees are being cut down just for mulch. Connie is correct.
