Wow, what different wonderful flowers you have. I jotted down the numbers of pictures so that I could ask you what they were. They are:2,4,8,9,13,16,18,19,20,23.

You had quite a lot of visitors and I'm sure everyone enjoyed the tour. I know I would have.

    Ariel

I agree with Ariel for most of them that I know. The exceptions are:

    4- kopsia fruticosa

5,6 and7- ? some type of pseuderanthemum? I am really interested in finding out what this beautiful foliage plant is, cheryl, and how much cold it can withstand.

    8- ruttyspolia Phyllis Van Heeden

11- acalypha of some sort- gorgeous foliage again!

    12-acalypha java white

    32- goldfish

    Dang, you two are good!!!
And between the the both of you, you got most of them.

    Ariel, I am truely impressed!
You took a lot of time naming all these!
Good guess on the jasmine, too.
Logees sold it as Jasminum officinale,
but later changed it to Jasminum grandiflorum 'Single' "Poet's Jasmine".

Anna, I love the leaf varigations of the Graptophyllums and Pseuderanthemums.
I've only lost one due to cold - g. pictum tricolor
The red stem with green, lime green and pink leaf
    - I have to start out with a new one of these every spring.

Well, I've sat here for the past 3 hours putting names to all the plants.
They all came with their botanical name - Hope they are correct!

    How cold hardy is it?

What are your top 5 favorite plants in your yard?

Your pictures have lengthened my want list!!

    Ariel

Ariel, yop're straight across the bay from me. You shouldn't have a problem growing the kopsia. I like it because it blooms continously year around. It can grow to about 6'.

Pick my 5 favorite. Tough choice!.......

    (1)Hands down my
Stemmadenia tree - my number #1 by far
    10 - 12' Fragrant,
    Blooms continously March to Nov.

    (2)#27 Tabernaemontana divaricata
-pinwheel jasmine - always in bloom
I have a dozen of them. They brighten up the yard.

    (3)#15 Brugmansia - "shredded white"
    always in bloom

(4)#20 Sesbania formosa "White Dragon Tree"
    - 10' tall, it's been in bloom since it was 2 foot tall,

    (5)graptophyllums all of them!

I know I am just acrosss the bay but I get just a few degrees cooler than you and as you know that can be the difference between life and death with some of the plants. And I am getting tired of having to protect so many plants.

When I first got my Stemmadenia tree it was huge(7 ft?) and in bloom. Then I almost lost it to a freeze a few years ago. Now it looks like a bush and has not bloomed since. I am so sad about it. I wish it would bloom. I will probably give it 1 more year and if it doesn't produce I will have to replace it with something else.
Do you fertilze your Stemmadenia? If so with what?

I have a friend in north Pinellas here
that planted a stemmadenia in the middle
of her big, open back yard.
Temps went down to 26 and froze it to the ground.
But the one she planted up in the corner
between her house and fence did just fine.
How about next spring I give you one
    and you can try again.
A few are starting to pop up under one of my trees.

As for fertilizer, I only use Lesco 12-12-12
Ornamental / time released from Home Depot.
It works great on my plants.

In another month, I will have another top 5 plants
when all my winter plants start to bloom.
    ........cheryl

PS. The Kopsia is not fragrant.
    and
Did you get to go to Ricky's swap?

Cheryl, where did you get your graptophyllums? Locally, or at Kartuz greenhouses? I have the tricolor, but it does not do very well for me. Always looks anemic, has some dieback, and loses foliage in winter. It really struggles. I have not tried any others. After seeing yours, tho, I'm definitely going to look for other types. Yours are beautiful and look healthy.

    Anna

Anna, I bought most of them down in Fort Lauderdale.
Next spring when I cut them all back,
you're more than welcome to cuttings,
but you'll have to make the trip up to St. Pete.
    They start very easy.
    ........cheryl

My stemmadenia tree hasn't bloom yet and it is a couple of years old. At what age did yours bloom? I get my fertilizer from the Lesco ware house itself. Also when does it bloom? summer?

I just went to Kathy's corner(closest to my house) and she told me I could probably find it at Willow tree, so I'll try to hop over there this week sometime.

You have a beautiful garden and sooo much variety!!

thanks for sharing with all of us:)

    teeka

Teeka, if you are referring to the fertilizer,
Home Depot has a contract to carry Lesco products.
I compared prices last year and it was $6 cheeper
at HD than Lesco's store off 62 Ave.

Katkin, this is my first Stemmadenia taken 6 years ago.
I bought it at Mounts Spring Plant Sale in May.
This picture was in Sept. It was about 4 foot tall judgeing by the purple post beside it.
    Look at all the blooms!

As for blooming time, it is in bloom by Easter
and it stops blooming when the weater changes - now.
But it is in bloom the whole time.

I think all plants need a certain amout of nutriants
    - a good balanced fertilizer like a 12-12-12 or 13-13-13,
to perform their best along with a good ground medium.
And I only use bark for mulch.
The good old saying - $5 dollar plant and a $10 hole holds true for me.
Katkin, don't fertilize it now, but come the first of March,
    and every 2 months afterwards,
give it a handful of fertilizer.
It should start blooming for you.

Here's my oldest tree at when it was 4' tall.
    Look at all the blooms!...........cheryl

Thanks Cheryl, I do have a regular fertilizing schedule for the lawn, fruit trees and plants.

When I first moved here I took courses at the extension service and the speaker told us the product HD sells is NOT the same quality that Lescos sells. They make a cheaper product for HD to sell to be competitive with the others they sell. Then he said but I didn't tell you that. When I asked at Lesco they said it was TRUE.

    Wow! I didn't know that.
    You learn something everyday.
If my plants do good on the cheep stuff,
I'll need a chainsaw to keep up with them on the good stuff!
    Thanks for the info........cheryl

    Cheryl,

No I didn't get to go to Ricky's. My Hubby's family came into town. Some how we got our days mixed up. And I didn't remember about your place until it was too late.

I know what you mean about your your top 5 plants changing. Mine are always changing too.
