Last fall I bought a few bags of it at Davenport Farms in Stone Ridge. It looks nice on my flower beds and my gardening neighbor told me it was good, but it's too soon to say. Did they tell you it was rat poop? That's what I heard. Anyway if you don't want to invest in 4 yards you can get a bag (50 lbs?) for around $5, I think, though my memory for these kinds of things isn't so great.

Heard about? Who hasn't heard about it? I've been using it in my gardens for 5 years with tremendous results. My garden designer refers to it as the "step back and watch it grow mulch". It's easy to use and my beds have never looked better. I'd recommend it whole heartedly. Croswell's will always answer my questions -- if you have any question about it I suggest you call them.

Yes, I've now gone through 8 yards and am thinking that I need to order more (I have a pretty big garden)! It does look great and so far my plants seem to be thriving. Very good customer service as well! How is the break down on the mulch? Since it's partially made up of compost I'm guessing that it doesn't just stand on top of the garden and stay there for five years. Which is fine - I'm willing to add more as needed - just wondered how often you reapply it to your beds?
