I have a dry hillside that bakes in the blazing summer sun. It's covered with a variety of sedums and some rug junipers. The trick is to plant them in little pockets cut into the slope so each plant can catch a fair share of water when it rains.

Unfortunately, the sedums are loose and I do have to spend time weeding the hill. Good luck.
