Are you describing the nursery? It sounds so beautiful, what a nice was to spend a Sunday afternoon, I wasn't there, but sure sounds like I wish I had been. Thanks for post, it sounded special.

If I hadn't dropped the G on garden, it would be a bit clearer. Matterhorn has planted a very elaborate and large formal garden consisting almost entirely of Austin roses. A lot of them were in bloom yesterday for the opening day of the garden. There is a center pool with fountains, statuary, a row of columns with roses planted at the base (and a few trained up), inner beds of just roses and outer beds of roses with perennials. Worth a trip any time in June and I would suspect for the rest of the summer as well.

I go to Cropsey Farms there, and the Rockland Bakery : ), I know Rockland somewhat, but I have never heard of Matterhorn. What town is it in? I love roses too, but I seem to have trouble keeping them over the winter. Probably because I went with hybrid teas or floribundas... Recently I have put in rugosas ans shrub roses. The only HT that have consistantly come back are my Sonia(s) and my Sing in the Rain, I also have a Fragrant Cloud that has come back too although it looks a little scraggly. My Icebergs and Dainty Bess have come back. I am trying a few others this year. I am now trying HT in containers to be brought into the garage for the winter. Maybe I can get some advice there. Although, all the advice you ever need is right here at GW.

Justjoeygirl, Matterhorn is on route 45 in Spring Valley. If you go to Matterhornnursery.com, there are directions/address posted there. It is beautiful and worth the trip.
