Austin arden at Matterhorn Nursery
It was full of bloom and full of people this afternoon. anyone there from this forum? Lots of roses in bloom but what was interesting was that almost all had frozen to the ground and many, many had winter-killed and been replaced and were not yet blooming. The only ones that had some wood survive were Marienette, Heritage, Mary Rose and Brother Cadfael. There were whole beds which had to be planted again this spring. A far cry from the huge bushes I remember at Austin's nursery in England.
It's a gorgeous place and beautifully laid out with statutary, central pool and fountains, pergola......
Mr. Austin Jr was signing books and chatting with people. He said that Mayflower would be another hardy kind but it resents spraying.
I took some pictures but don't have a digital camera - if they come out, I'll try posting them here sometime in the next few weeks.
