incredible shot, birdlegs! look at that long proboscis. I am pretty sure I saw my first one last week, but it doesn't have a lobster tail like folks describe.
it looks like it is creating lift with the backstroke of its wing like hummingbirds do. this was around 10pm on the 4oclocks. I've seen it on the moonflower, too.

Yours does look differant. I know there are differant kinds of them. I think I have a shot of one, and will look for it later tonight. Hopefully there will be a hummer to get a pic of today. I have to buy a butterfly and moth book to read this winter.

Great pictures Birdlegs and Standard. I have always heard the name bumblebee moth for that great shot by Birdlegs. It is a daytime visitor. The one by Standard is more evening and early morning.

Is that what that alien being is!? There's one here that methodically works over each and every tube on the Agastache 'Tutti-frutti' several times a day. It does look like a giant bumble bee, fuzzy just like Birdlegs', but yellow instead of red. Thanks for posting the photos, what nice shots!

Wow those are two great shots of moths.I'm not sure what Standard's is, Ive never even seen one in person.

Wow, what a beautiful shot - nice color!

Interestingly enough ancient Indian or Spanish folklore talks about how hummingbirds might be half bird and half insect. This picture really hits home with that theory! The spanish name for the hummer is Chuparosa, of which there is also a plant named after as well.
