Here's a couple pics from steamy hot NJ today.Alot of my Red Lobelias are in full bloom now.

here's a neigborhood Chickadee looking for a thistle snack, I have a particular hummer that is constantly chasing them off.

Those are beautiful pictures Stephen! Love the hummer at the lobelia and the monarch caterpillar you are so lucky to have them! Is that swamp milkweed or butterfly milkweed or another form? I've never seen the monarch caterpillar in person! Sarah

Great photos Stephen!!!

That's an awesome close up photo of a monarch cat too.

I've got lots of them happily munching on milkweeds here...and several chrysalises hanging from the brickwork and eaves of my house. Am leaving them up to Mother Nature but it's hard to keep up with them. I make the rounds daily to check on them :o)

wow, what great photos, stephen, thank you. I just received some milkweed seeds in a trade and I hope to see some monarch cats next year.

no luck with lobelia again here this year. don't know if it's the climate or me, but I doubt I'll try it again here. I think it's just too hot and dry here.

Those pictures are outstanding. I use to see those cats on my dill and always picked them off, I didn't know what they were, boy do I feel like a jerk now.

Sarah: that is Swamp Milkweed I think the latin is Aesclepias curvasa or something but my spelling is wrong, very abundant along roadsides.They like the Buttrfly Milkweed also.

DPDallas : that is my never-visited Orange Oriole feeder behind the Canna bloom.When they are here they are much more interested in the Mullberry tree to bother with the feeder.

Texas Puddy : Thanks for the comments , maybe someday I will get to host all the different butterfly species that you get in your amazing garden !

Standard : You may find Milkweed is nearly impossibe to kill once you get a plant established !! I have a hard time keeping it in-bounds! unlike Lobelias they are very drought-tolerent.

Judi and Birdlegs : Thankyou for the wonderfull comments ! Yes Birdlegs the Monarch Cats just love dill too!
