i'm confused about bird misters.

do you have to have a birdbath to use them? if not, what do they attach to? do you have to have it hooked up to a garden hose or faucet, or can you just recycle the water (whatever container the water is in)..? if so, how often do you have to change the water & clean out the container?

the place where i would like to put a mister is not anywhere near the hose faucet... so i was hoping to hang up one of those ceramic "plate" bird baths... and put the mister on there somewhere.

does home depot and lowe's sell a fairly cheap one?

i haven't found a website yet (that sells these) that offers any info about how to use them or hook them up. can anyone help me understand how they work? thanks so much!
