Greggiis and Microphyllas are a little hardier and can take more cold as long as the soil drains well. My wild Watermelon survived one year. Last year we had no snow cover for protection and I lost it. I have three greggiis in the ground that I grew from seed last year. Time will tell here if they survived as there is still too much snow on the grouwn to tell. I am hoping to get more greggii started for this year to use more as foundations and use the coccineas behind them. If the greggis survived this winter that will be a definite plus.
