Hummingbirds Wanted!

Do hummingbirds fly around or across the great lakes?

When do they arrive in the spring?

How far north do hummingbirds breed?

How many hummingbirds are in Ontario?

This project will help to answer these questions and many more.

Cindy Cartwright started THE ONTARIO HUMMINGBIRD PROJECT in 2005 to understand the life cycle of OntarioÂs hummingbirds.

You are invited to participate in this important project by:

- reporting the first hummingbird that you see in the spring

- letting us know if you have a lot of hummingbirds in your yard

- calling if you see hummingbirds with orange or brown backs, or white hummingbirds

You do not have to become a member to send in information,

but membership has benefits. Join the Ontario Hummingbird

Project and receive three electronic newsletters each year filled with information on hummingbirds, gardening tips to attract hummingbirds, and special members-only offers.

Hey Steve is the project only open to Canadians. I am across the river In Niagara county, NY

Hey Penny,

Well that is a good question, your data may be handy to our coordinator just to have a better idea of arrival dates in the Niagara area. I will contact Cindy directly to find out and post the info back to the forum.

I myself am in a similar situation, I will be providing data for the Michigan Hummernet, even though I am in Windsor, Ontario which is just south of Detroit across the river.

I had to have a tough question for my first one :)

Sorry Steve,
Didn't mean to throw you a curve right off the bat. I do know that there are a few of us in the Buffalo/Niagara area that track the spring migration each year and also report on Lanny Chambers map, Journey North and Operation Ruby-throat. I am also a member of Humnet.
